Have stomach flu like symptoms along with severe leg pain & chest pain, should I go to Er? There's no relief with Advil.
I have symptoms of stomach flu, but no nausea and diarrhea. I was diagnosed this week with chest inflammation and am on ibuprofen. Is it OK to take?
Gi docs: i was in hospital for mallory-weiss tear about 2 weeks ago (secondary to stomach virus/vomiting). Now I have flu/flu-like illness with chills/fever. Do you think it's safe to take ibuprofen?
Not really: Used according to prescription it wouldn't kill you, but it causes stomach irritation & constipation.As for fever or muscle aches you may have, NSAIDs like ibuprofen or naproxen (Advil or Aleve) are far more effective, but these, too, can cause stomach irritation.Pepto Bismol is still a reasonable OTC treatment (but can also constipate) & Emetrol for nausea.Your dr. can provide other alternatives. ...Read more

Is better not: If the diarrhea is not severe is better not to. The infected gastrointestinal epithelium is sloughing off & making it's way to clear & replace itself. Anything that prevent this would prolong the disease. Rest is best: Resting and drinking plenty of fluid is best. Flu is viral, there are no medications to cure the flu. If your are not vomiting take plenty of small sips of clear liquid, take tyelenol for body aches. If your symptoms also involve upper respiratory symptoms then see your doctor to check if you have influenza.
