My 2yr old has fever of 102 keeps going up/down gave her infant Advil (ibuprofen) not working can I give it every 4hr instead of 6?

No : Children tend to get high fevers which at times can go to 105. The fever itself is not ususally a concern and it is not necessary to get it under 100 with meds. Temps that rise rapidly can trigger seizures in some children. With temps often come achiness and headaches which contribute to fussiness. The more important thing is to confirm the source of fever is not serious and then provide comfort. ...Read more

Should be OK: Fever is sign of ongoing inflammation. Patients can have some low grade fever even after being on antibiotics. It is OK to give the dose per age(mentioned in the label) of acetaminophen or tylenol or ibuprofen. However, need to be careful about the side effects. Cold (not ice cold but tap-water cold) towel over the body is also a good home remedy. If fever continues, take him to his doctor. ...Read more

My son has been having on and off fever all day, he just had his antibiotics a half hour ago, is it safe to give him children's Advil (ibuprofen) right now?

Yes: You can give fever meds without worry. They do not interfere with the effectiveness of the antibiotic.Try not to give fever meds more often than they are due, 6 hours on advil or 4 on tylenol (acetaminophen). I do not wake kids for fever meds and i don't necessarily use them if the kid is playful and drinking well. ...Read more

If my 1 yr baby has fever (more than 39 degrees) while sleeping,do I have to wake her up?do I have to check every thirty minute after giving ibuprofen

Fever...: The fever is a symptom. She is on antibiotics, so I imagine you saw her pediatrician and she started treatment for some now known illness? The fever itself is not dangerous; it does not even need to be treated except to provide comfort to your baby if it is making her miserable. If she is sleeping, let her sleep. rest is good. If the fever is persisting beyond 2 days on rx'd meds, reevaluate. ...Read more

Bad cold, fever between 99.0 & 101.8 for 3 days & returns after Advil (ibuprofen) starts to wear off. I have asthma - should I go to er or dr or give it time?

Bad cold and asthma: You mentioned fever , but no mention of other symptoms as cough, wheeze, shortness of breath, congestion, etc, that usually accompany colds. If you don't have any of those symptoms or just mild form, just continue taking your controller medicines, I suggest acetaminophen for fever instead of Advil (ibuprofen). In case of acute flare of asthma symptoms use short acting albuterol not advair and call ur doctor ...Read more

Bacterial: I''m not sure how long these symptoms have been going on, but it is certainly possible that she has developed a secondary bacterial infection involving her ears, sinuses and/or chest.
