I only took it for 3 days, so how long will it stay in my system. Prozac (fluoxetine) 20 mg. Also, can I safely take my tramadol?
Prozac (fluoxetine): Prozac (fluoxetine)'s half-life is up to 6-7 days but if you only took 3 doses, you didn't get much into you system. Trauma sol interacts with Prozac (fluoxetine) like drugs. It can increase the risk for the serotonin syndrome. If you are off Prozac (fluoxetine) 3 days you should be able to take tramadol. It is unlikely it would occur at your dose and duration ...Read more

Was rxed tramadol for chest pains at ER yesterday. I stopped taking Prozac (fluoxetine) over 2 weeks ago.would I still be at risk for serotonin syndrome or seizure?
Not likely: Prozac (fluoxetine) usually clears from the body by two weeks. You are not likely to experience serotonin syndrome at this time. Tramadol by itself, however, can lower the seizure threshold making you at risk to have a seizure. If you are not taking it on an ongoing basis, you are safe. Hope this helps. Best wishes! ...Read more
Hello! I take Prozac, daily .........my PCP & Surgeon are aware of all this........YET, FOR APPX THE LAST 3 & HALF YEARS THEY HAVE PERSCRIBED TRAMAD?
Understood.: Although the combination of Tramadol (Tramad) & Prozac has the potential to cause a serotinin syndrome — it doesn't in most people. I have seen a couple of cases where a person was on a high dose of a selective serotonin reuptake inhibitor (SSRI) and tramadol & developed serotonin syndrome. Sometimes, it is not dose related. It is not uncommon to prescribe medications that may have potential to ...Read more
Why do drugs like Prozac (fluoxetine) and Ultram that affect serotonin cause you to sweat more? How can I deal with the sweating better?
Stop the combination: Serotonin syndrome when the two medications are taken together. Serotonin syndrome can be serious and even life threatening. It is the result of high levels of serotonin in the body. Serotonin syndrome is characterized by having at least three of these listed symptoms: tremor, shivering, agitation, diaphoresis fever, hyper-reflexia incoordination or myoclonus. Stop taken the two madication together. ...Read more
Does Prozac (fluoxetine) cause Ultram to work better? I saw that Prozac (fluoxetine) increases opiod receptors in brain. Have back pain, osteoarthritis pain, foot nerve damage.
Unlikely: No evidence I know of that and there are significant interactions. Though interactions are the same there is evidence that Cymbalta (duloxetine) may help with chronic pain. Talk to your doctor about all the medications you are on and he/she can help you weigh the benefit vs risk of such combinations. ...Read more
Why do some of your doctors say it’s ok to take tramadol and fluoxetine together - and some don’t ?
Serotonin syndrome: Tramadol has SNRI properties, so it is serotonergic. When combined with other serotonergic meds like fluoxetine, there is potential for serotonin syndrome. Depends on the doses, really, and the individual's tolerance to serotonergic agents. Some docs are more comfortable than other co-prescribing serotonergic drugs. I've safely co-prescribed these, but I've always been vigilant about monitoring. ...Read more
On fluoxetine & tramadol adviced by doc. Leaflet said this isn't safe. What are risks of taking these together is it serious & should I stop taking one?
Glad you asked: Yes — these are risky in combo and the worst is very serious indeed. Serotonin syndrome can be deadly — it's rare to be that bad, but it happens. BUT, if you've started this, please get a Dr to monitor your coming off — stopping these abruptly can also be very risky. I wish more people would ask — and before they start the Rx! A good Dr is worth finding even if it takes time. Interview them! ...Read more

Same Dr for Rx's?: There is an increased risk of some serious Prozac (fluoxetine) side effects so there needs to be coordination and dose adjustment if needed. Is it ok to take siberian ginseng daily for people who are stressed. Are there any major interactions with ssris like prozac (fluoxetine)?
Could be some: I checked naturaldatabase. Com -- which says that siberian ginseng may inhibit both cytochrome p450 2d6 and 2d9. Prozac (fluoxetine) is metabolized by these same enzymes, so its metabolism could take longer, and build up in your system. These are potential interactions only, but you asked. Depends on you: The timing doesn't change the effect of Prozac (fluoxetine) on depression, anxiety, or panic attacks. But Prozac tends to be "activating" and might disturb sleep if taken at bedtime. Most patients take it after their first food of the day, e.g., after breakfast. Rarely, patients find it sedating instead of activating, and then it's best to take it at bedtime. ...Read more
