Doctor insights on:
Is It Normal To Have Double Vision While Writing Or Reading Or Watching Tv For Long In Dark
It can be.: Many people will have some degree of misalignment between their two eyes when fatigued. This is called a phoria. It is normal. Patients will experience double vision temporarily, but should easily be able to eliminate the double vision by "refocusing". Double vision that does not go away or happens frequently is abnormal and should be evaluated by an eye doctor. ...Read more
I have been having side by side double vision mainly when driving or watching tv for 3-4 years .Have had prisms put in glasses 2 times now & sometime ?
When you look at a distance, the in-turning muscles relax, the out-turning muscles tighten. In your case, the out-turning muscles are week- could be medical side-effect, stroke effect, decompensated eye crossing, other neurologic disorder.
If the amount of prisms becomes excessive, have eye muscle surgery.
Contac a "pediatric" ophthalmologist who does a lot of muscle surgery. ...Read more
Suddenly can't see out of eye the other day i was watching tv and i started having double vision. Then the next day i woke up and my left eye was blurry and i couldn't see out of it at all. I've been getting migraines my entire life and a few hours after
The : The symptoms are not typical for a migraine alone. You noted two distinct and dramatic symptoms (double vision, blur), separated in time, and i think you indicate a headache as well. More history will help to zero in on the problem, and if you were my patient i'd have you come in promptly (i.e. That day) to figure out what's going on. While migraine (which can change in presentation over time), loss of control of a pre-existing eye muscle imbalance, and/or surface irritation would be the most benign cause, other, time sensitive and potentially dangerous situations should be investigated immediately. You might have a vascular cause needing immediate attention (e.g. Transient ischemic attack, temporal arteritis or other inflammations) or other issues. My advice: see your eye md asap. ...Read more
I am having slight double vision that occurs rarely when i don't blink in front of the pc. Barely noticeable Is that normal.
Reading and such is fine?
Induced diplopia: You're inducing your own diplopia (double vision) by staring at the PC without blinking since there is an exerted force being applied trying to keep the vision focused. That MENTAL tension translates into MUSCLE TENSION & likely causes an eye cross or similar bringing on diplopia. As I tell my kids, "STOP THAT!" & things nearly always get better. Blood pooling: You probably have some degree of blood pooling in the lower extremities which increases with the inactivity of prolonged sitting. When you stand up suddenly your upper body, and this includes the eye muscle coordination center in the brain stem, has a temporary loss of blood and this alters the function which for you causes a brief doubling of vision. Try getting up slowly/flex your muscles first. ...Read more
Usually not.: Unless there is a big difference in the prescription between the two eyes, you should not experience double vision when wearing your glasses. There may be a problem with the way that the glasses were made or the prescription itself. It could also be something unrelated to the glasses. Double vision: Some people confuse double vision and blurred vision. Double vision is seeing two distinct, separate images of the same thing. Most double vision is due to misalignment of the eyes. About a year ago I started having double vision. It really bothers me now, especially when I'm driving or watching a movie. How to get rid of it?
Answer is obvious: If your car was making a funny sound, would you think, "How can I get rid of that funny sound?" or would you think, "I need to take my car in to the mechanic to find out what's making that sound so HE can get rid of the sound"? It's just as true in medicine as in auto repair: First diagnosis, THEN treatment. How can you "get rid" of something when you don't know what is causing that something? ...Read more
