Bad Diarrhea for 5 months colonoscopy came back normal?

The work-up for: chronic diarrhea can be complex. Key factors are is it watery, bloody, fatty appearing. The colonoscopy is most important if it is bloody to evaluate for inflammatory bowel disease, cancer and hemorrhoids! If watery, need blood tests/stool cultures to exclude infection and gluten sensitivity. Further helpful tests include fecal leukocytes, electrolytes and fat measurement. You need more work-up. See a GI doctor: You need to be reevaluated. There are so very many causes for diarrhea that it is difficult to give you a definitive answer. Your stool specimens will need exams after a thorough history, physical exam and possibly some imaging studies. Go and get seen. Good luck. Read more

Is it normal to continue to have water-y diarrhea all day after a colonoscopy? I threw up several times after both parts of the prep yesterday too.

Yes, but: I would still let your doctor know of your symptoms. Often times water is used as irrigation during the procedure, so immediately after you can expect to be expelling the water. Nevertheless, let your doctor know because they did the procedure and would be only person to know what would be expected in your indivdualized case. Read more

Yeah I got a colonoscopy about 3 weeks ago and I still have severe diarrhea is that normal or should I be concerned they cut a pre-cancerous polyp out?

Yeah I got a colonoscopy about 3 weeks ago and I still have severe diarrhea is that normal or should I be concerned they cut a pre-cancerous polyp out?

No concern: Medication taken to clean bowel could lead to diarrhea but having removed or not removed polyp, unless latter was malignant is unassociated with bowel malignancy. Unless congenital polyposis with APC gene mutations present, polyps only associated with 5% of bowel carcinomas. Latter derived from field effect, transformation possibly related to infection from organisms like polyoma virus Read more

6hrs post-EGD. Have had diarrhea nausea no appetite since procedure. Should I worry or normal? None of this happened after colonoscopy.

6hrs post-EGD. Have had diarrhea nausea no appetite since procedure. Should I worry or normal? None of this happened after colonoscopy.

EGD: An upper endoscopy procedure itself like yours usually doesn't cause diarrhea and thus it could be coincidental. Since your stomach was instrumented I can see it causing gastric irritation. For now, avoid caffeine, spicey or fried foods, avoid harsh roughage, drink flat ginger ale and take kaopectate (may cause dark stools) as needed for diarrhea control. Call your gastroenterologist as needed Read more

After having a laparoscopic cholecystectomy I began having very bad diarrhea quite often. What can I do about it? My colonoscopy was normal.

Use cholestyramine: Diarrhea after gb removal can reflect 'bile salt' diarrhea. Cholestyramine binds the bile and relives the diarrhea. Use standard seize but build gradually to avoid - what else -constipation! Read more
