Might be ok: Have your local md or ENT evaluate it. It might just be trauma from an old bite on the tongue, or an area where the tongue rubs on a sharp tooth. However, any lump in the mouth or throat, especially if enlarging with time, needs to be checked out. ...Read more

Probably normal: There are numerous larger bumps on the back and sides of tongue. These papillae have various functions like you taste buds. I would be more concerned about white growths on the side of your tongue since it is the most common site for cancer in your mouth. You may want to google tongue anatomy to compare your findings.
