Can women with a (VSD) Ventricular septal defect/ebstein anomaly still have a normal pregnancy as the murmur is harmless? Also what are some risks?

Pregnancy Risks: The diseases poses potential risks to the mother and fetus Cyanosis (blue discolouration of the skin due to reduced body Oxygen), which might have harmful effect on baby. Blood clots risk Arrhythmia (abnormal beating of the heart) Despite these concerns, many women with Ebstein's anomaly usually tolerate pregnancy well Needs to discuss the matter with the Cardiologist before getting pregnant ...Read more

Ebstein Anomaly (Definition)

Ebstein anomaly is an abnormality in the tricuspid valve. The tricuspid valve separates the right atrium (the chamber that receives blood from the body) from the right ventricle (the chamber that pumps blood to the lungs). In Ebstein anomaly, two leaflets of the tricuspid valve are displaced downward into the pumping chamber. The third leaflet is elongated and may be ...Read more

What sort of disorder is ebstein anomaly?

What sort of disorder is ebstein anomaly?

Congenital defect: Ebstein's anomaly is a rare heart defect that's present at birth (congenital). The tricuspid valve — the valve between the right atrium and right ventricle — is malformed and doesn't work properly. Blood leaks back through the valve, making the heart work less efficiently. Ebstein's may result in heart enlargement or heart failure. Rhythm problems are common. It can be mild or severe. ...Read more

What are the symptoms of ebstein anomaly?

What are the symptoms of ebstein anomaly?

Cyanosis and CHF. : The most important symptoms in ebstein's anomaly are related to the tricuspid valve being positioned too low inside the right ventricle. Essentially, the right side of the heart may not work well causing poor oxygenation (cyanosis) and backing up of blood in the lung circulation (chf). There is wide variety of severity of the anomaly, from mild to severe. Patients may have heart beat problems. ...Read more

My fetus has ebstein anomaly. Is this is consider as defect for life?

Yes. : Ebstein's anomaly can vary in severity. Very mild forms are most of the times inconsequential. Severe forms may cause illness in early infancy, and sometimes require surgical repair. I'm assuming your doctor referred you to a pediatric cardiologist for a fetal echo. Ask about the severity of the ebsteins and the associated tricuspid regurgitation (valve leakage). Good luck. ...Read more

What to do if I have conginital heart disease { ebstein anomaly } this is consider as disability?

What to do if I have conginital heart disease { ebstein anomaly } this is consider as disability?

Depends: Not all forms of congenital heart disease and not all forms of ebstein anomaly cause disability. It is possible for people with ebstein anomaly to be fully functional. Most people with congenital heart disease do not have significant disability, but rather can hold a full-time job and live a normal or near normal life. ...Read more

My wife anomaly scan showed placenta grade 2 maturity as my wife is 20 week pregnant.is there anything to worry or it is normal?

My wife anomaly scan showed placenta grade 2 maturity as my wife is 20 week pregnant.is there anything to worry or it is normal?

It's normal: Placentas are usually graded on sonogram base on the degree of calcification that is present within the placenta. These may appears as white echogenic areas on sonogram. The grading as somewhat subjective but in general the farther along the pregnancy, the more mature is the placenta and hence there is more calcification present. A grade 3 placenta may imply that the pregnancy is term or near term ...Read more

I recently had anomaly scan 19 weeks. sonographer said there's some fluid in baby's kidney .Is it normal, as he didn't book me for another scan. ?

Get another scan: Fluid in the baby's kidneys is not "normal," but is somewhat common. I think you are describing renal pylectasis, or dilation of kidney. This often will resolve on its own, but you should still have follow-up. Your doctor will probably recommend this in 2-4 weeks, depending on severity. ...Read more

If you had MRI to check for coronary anomaly and results were left one normal and fairly sure 90% right one is and advised no more test. What wouyoudo?

Depends: Depends on what, if any, symptoms you have. A coronary anomaly is 1 in a 1, 000. A serious coronary anamaly is 1 in 10, 000. A 10% uncertainty make it about a 1 in 100, 000 chance that you have a serious coronary anomoly. If there's still uncertainty, do a nuclear stress test. If there's no ischemia (ie, a normal test) that would further reduce the likelhood to literally 1 in a million! ...Read more

The cause of my high resting heart rate couldn't be heart anomaly because i had an echo and they said it was normal? Doesn't that rule it out?

Probably: An echocardiogram, if performed by a well-trained individual and interpreted by a knowledegable physician, should exclude structural and functional heart disease. An elevated resting heart rate could be related to anemia, hyperthyroidism, anxiety, certain medications, and other causes. ...Read more

There is absence of chromosomal 15 in me.. Is my offspring will be normal? If not then tell me thee abnormality ratio.. Plz please

Baby may be abnormal: If a person is missing a piece of chromosome 15, that missing piece probably got attached to another chromosome, thus allowing her to function normally enough to use this healthtap website. Unfortunately, both chromosomes (the one missing a piece and the one that received the missing piece) are abnormal. Offspring are likely to receive one or both of the defective chromosomes. Geneticist can help. ...Read more

Is it normal for my child to havr larger left kidney than right kidney. or it is a kind of abnormality/disease?

Probably Normal: It depends on how the size of each kidney compares with the norm for your child's age. A determination of the function of the kidneys will also help clarify if this is a variant of normal or indicative of a disease process. It will be prudent to keep any requested follow up to discuss your child's result. Take care ...Read more
