Is it normal to develop a yellow discharge while treating bacterial vaginosis with oral clindamycin?

Is it normal to develop a yellow discharge while treating bacterial vaginosis with oral clindamycin?

Vaginal discharge: A yellowish vaginal discharge is most common with a trichomonas infection. Clindamycin is not an adequate treatment for trichomonas. An antibiotic called Metronidazole is usually used. It is possible that you may have had both germs at the same time and that with elimination of the gardnerella which cause bacterial vaginosis, the trichomonas had more of a chance to overgrow. ...Read more

Yeast? Recheck w/ MD: You say nothing about timing. How soon after starting or finishing metronidazole? Any other symptoms, like itching or irritation? Antibiotics like metronidazole can result in yeast infection, which often causes "clumped" discharge -- although usually white, and main symptom usually is itching etc. Best to check back with the doctor who treated your BV. Good luck! ...Read more

I've recently been treated for bacterial vaginosis I finished the meds but now I'm have this terrible itching and my discharge is yellow greenish?

Return for follow up: It seems clear to me that terrible itching and a non-clear discharge are reasons to see your provider. So soon after a known infection, it's sparklingly clear. Don't wait, it is not likely to clear-up on its' own. Best wishes! ...Read more

How ling does clindamycin for bacterial vaginosis take to work?

About 3-5 days: Antibiotic treatment for bacterial vaginosis infections take about 3-5 days to start feeling better. It is important to finish the whole antibiotic treatment even if the vaginal symptoms go away, or the infection is more likely to return. Also any antibiotic for BV cures it about 85% of the time, so it doesn't always work. Sometimes the infection comes back and needs to be treated again. ...Read more

Is it ok to take the metronidazole first then after 2days the clindamycin for my bacterial vaginosis?

Why?: The treatment for bacterial vaginosis is Metronidazole for 7 days. Clindamycin is also a treatment by itself but not to be used together or one after the other. If you were given Metronidazole 2 grams one time use, that's another story. I would follow the prescriber's instructions in that case. ...Read more

Just finished flagyl to treat bv my vagina is staying very wet with watery discharge. Is that normal after finishing the meds for bacterial vaginosis?

Re-treat?: The amount of vaginal discharge can vary widely, and amount alone doesn't tell much about how your BV is doing. It's probably more important if there is still the strong odor that often occurs in BV. Also, BV sometimes is a reaction to other infections, including STDs; I hope you were checked for gonorrhea, chlamydia, etc. Best to check back with the doctor or clinic treating you. Good luck! ...Read more
