I recently had a septoplasty. It has been four weeks and I do not notice any difference pain is 95% gone. Is this normal? Does this happen sometimes?
Can be: Usually after a month my patients who undergo septoplasty (and almost always some type of turbinate reduction surgery) are 90% healed and breathing great. Give it another few weeks and if you are still congested see you doctor. If not happy with what he or she says then get another opinion. ...Read more

Will vary w surgery: The post op recommendations will, vary with the nature of the procedure and your swelling. While you may be able to sleep normally soon after surgery, this will depend on what was performed. If external manipulation of the nasal skeleton was performed, special precautions may be recommended for more than 6 weeks to avoid displacing the delicately aligned structures. Discuss with your surgeon. ...Read more
It depends: After nasal septoplasty surgery it is normal to have some swelling for a few weeks and even months. This swelling causes nasal congestion. You should see your surgeon to be certain you do not have a more serious problem such as a hematoma- which is a collection of blood inside the septum that can lead to infection or cartilage damage. ...Read more

Nose surgery: Suture placed anywhere in the body after surgery will result in swelling in conjunction with whatever procedure was performed. I had a septoplasty and turbinoplasty 3 weeks ago and I'm still feeling very congested - almost the same as I was before. Is it normal after?
Certainly can be!: Swelling and congestion can last for weeks or longer, and you shouldn't even blow your nose for the first 3-4 weeks! This will continue to improve as time goes by, but in rare cases revision surgery can be necessary. Be patient and continue to follow-up with your surgeon! ...Read more
Had rhino-septoplasty done 1month ago all stitches have not dissolved is this normal? If so how long can they take as I feel some pain and irritation
Check with your MD: It depends on the type of suture used. I imagine you are referring to stitches inside the nose. Some types dissolve in 6-8 days and others in 4-6 months. If they are irritating they can easily be removed. Just call your surgeon's office and check. They would want to hear from you if you are having any issues at all. ...Read more
I had a septoplasty and turbinoplasty 3 weeks ago and still feel very congested. Almost the same as before. Is this normal or did the surgery fail?
Swelling or splint: Septoplasty and turbinoplasty often require internal splints which may contribute to your congested feeling. If there is no splint it often takes 6-12 weeks for the swelling to subside (post traumatic rhinitis). Speak to your doctor. Simple elevation at night time or nasal sprays may be all that is necessary. ...Read more
How long does the bleeding last after a septoplasty? I've read other people say it lasted for several days. I'm not good with lots of blood, especially my own. I know I need a septoplasty, but I'm afraid I might have trouble handling the bleeding..
You may have some blood-tinged nose drainage for a couple days after having a septoplasty.
Avoiding blood thinning medications and taking it easy after surgery should help minimize this. I have patient wear a mustache dressing (a guaze placed below the nostrils) to catch any drainage, which helps minimize seeing much blood. ...Read more

Probably: You would definitely need to have your child seen by a doctor-- either an ENT or plastic surgeon would be best. Night-time nasal dry crusting. I wear a CPAP. How can I reduce this? Am 1 1/2 weeks post-septoplasty. This was normal for me pre-surgery.
You might: Consider trying using an emollient with a oil base, like vaseline on the inside of your nose, or review with your ENT about possible use of an antibiotic ointment if there is a suggestion of vestibulitis. You should also consider regular saline nasal irrigation - as long as it's OK by your ENT post-surgically. And review with your ENT about humidifcation of your not only your home but CPAP. ...Read more

Had a septoplasty and my surgeon never used any packing and removed my stents the day after my surgery. Is this normal? Will I I have scarring now?
No worries: Historically many ents have placed packing which was left in place for several hours up to three days. Over the past decade most ents have switched to silaastic (a semi rigid silicone and plastic polymer) splints. Splints when used are left anywhere from 1-8 days. Some ents do not use packing or splints. Removing splints on the first day after surgery does not predispose you to scarring. ...Read more
My brother is Having a hard time peeing after a septoplasty. Is this normal? He does get the urge to pee when he tries it comes out little by little.
Be checked now...: Nasal septoplasty itself should not induce voiding difficulty, but general anesthesia + IV infusion may unintentionally & inadvertently overstretch the bladder leading to bladder muscle dysfunction. So, go to be checked so to assure not developing pending urinary retention as soon as possible; do not try to wait it out. ...Read more
Hi, I had a septoplasty six weeks ago and I still can't breathe out of my left nostril. Is that normal?
Septoplasty: Greetings. In my opinion 6 weeks after a Septoplasty, you should notice positive changes in your nasal breathing. After the surgery, I typically use intranasal splints to help assure that the corrected septum stays midline. Not all doctors use splints. I would ask your surgeon why you still notice resistance. I would question scar formation and turbinate swelling. I hope you breathe better soon. ...Read more
