I struggle with having bowel movements. I usually have to do an enema weekly to get relief. What could cause that& ways 2 help get normal bm?

Been evaluated yet?: Doctors define constipation as stools less frequently than once every 3-4 days. Patients feel they are "constipated" when passing hard or small volume stool, or they feel full ; bloated. Had an x-ray to show you're not blocked? Do we know if your gut is sluggish or your rectum works correctly--these can be tested for. Don't get frustrated, but see a GI specialist for the correct treatment. ...Read more

Not exactly...: What was the original reason for taking the laxative? If for constipation, you should increase your intake of fruits such as prunes to improve your stools. If for abdominal pain and cramping, a laxative would make the issue worse. If it is not better in a few days, you should see your doctor. ...Read more

Difficult to say: Unless your constipation was mostly related to a fecal(poop) impaction which your enema may have relieved, it may not readily normalize bowel wise until the underlying cause of your constipation is addressed. Unfortunately I can't readily determine the cause without more history. I would encourage you to stay hydrated, keep up your fiber intake, remain active. Priobiotics may be an option. ...Read more
