There are studies on both sides of this issue, and the majority of studies have not shown efficacy of either medication in preventing the progression or promoting the improvement of liver inflammation. IV form possibly: Taking it orally had some anecdotal evidence, but they did a big review of multiple studies about it and found no benefit. Milk thistle, but...: There's some actual science supporting milk thistle for hepatitis c (gastroenterology nov 2008). The other product lists chicory, tamarisk, yarrow and caper bush. Unlikely: The role of milk thistle in fatty lived disease is limited. In hepatitis c one study showed that high intravenous doses may slow progression, but is not a cure. I do not recommend milk thistle to my patients. It is safe and if someone is ademant about taking it i don't necessarily discourage it.
