No: If you have a fatty liver or liver disease stop eating fatty food, stop eating fried food, stop drinking alcohol, stop taking pain pills and lower your cholesterol. Unlikely: The role of milk thistle in fatty lived disease is limited. In hepatitis c one study showed that high intravenous doses may slow progression, but is not a cure. I do not recommend milk thistle to my patients. It is safe and if someone is ademant about taking it i don't necessarily discourage it. Weight loss...: Fatty liver disease is most often a consequence of the foods we eat and being overweight. There is no specific treatment (drug or supplement) effective for reversing fatty liver. If your bmi is > 24, losing weight will result in improvement in ast/alt and reduction of fat in the liver. Certainly elimination of alcohol (if you drink) is recommended. Stop the milk thistle.
