Is it easy to tear an ACL if I long board all the time?

What is the recovery time for an ACL surgery and when can I start to play football again?

8-9 months: Although the time before your surgeon let's you return to sports varies, any pivoting sports place great forces through the reconstruction. An autograft acl (your own tendon) typically takes 6-7 months to mature while an allograft acl (donor tendon) typically takes 8-9 months to mature. The higher your performance level, the more important it is to wait for the acl to heal and mature. 8-9 months! ...Read more

What happens if you tear your ACL but don't have surgery to repair it and just try to carry on as normal?

What happens if you tear your ACL but don't have surgery to repair it and just try to carry on as normal?

Unstable knee: The ACL (anterior cruciate ligament) prevents the tibia (shin bone) from sliding forward from under the femur (thigh bone). This causes the knee to feel unstable and give way. It also increases the risk of damage to other structures, like the medial and lateral meniscus cartilage. The mensici act as shock absorbers and tearig them increases the risk of developing knee arthritis later in the future. ...Read more

How long does it take for an adherence to form in the tmj? Is it possible after an arhroscopy to have again adherences formed down? Thank you

Within months : Unfortunately, adhesions in such a small joint space as the TMJ are common. I would discuss this with your omfs. Physical therapy can be of benefit, along with stabilization of the bite with either a bite splint or minor equilibration. Arthrocentesis ( a mini arthroscopy ) as an in office procedure may also help. ...Read more

I have a slap tear in my shoulder. Is it possible for the tear to heal on its own without a surgery or is surgery theonly way to go? Are there any long term effects?

Depends: Slap lesions don't heal on their own. There is good data to support that. Not all slap lesions need surgery. If you have no pain or other symptoms nothing needs to be done. If you have pain try physical therapy first. If that fails, you may need surgery to repair your labrum, or tenodese (cut and reimplant in a different location) your biceps tendon. Choice depends on age, activity level etc. ...Read more

How much time will it take to fully recover from a meniscus toren in the knee with surgery?

How much time will it take to fully recover from a meniscus toren in the knee with surgery?

It Depends: On how active you are and how much was done during surgery. For a routine knee scope i typically allow my patients back to work in 3-4 days if they have a sedentary job. Otherwise, most people can start getting back to work at 2-3 weeks depending on their job. Strengthening of the quadriceps muscle is key as this shuts down with knee surgery of any kind. Most people are near full by 4 weeks. ...Read more

How long will it take for me to be able to return to my job as a housekeeper after knee surgery for a bucket handle tear of my medial meniscus?

Depends: If your surgeon can repair (stitch together) the tear, then you will need crutches and may also require a brace with restricted motion for up to 6 weeks, followed by rehab to regain strength and motion.
