Is it common after super restrictive dieting to go on an eating binge?

Is it common after super restrictive dieting to go on an eating binge?

Yo-Yo weight loss: Highly-restrictive diets are short-term fads that both calorie restrict & promote ketosis with loss of water weight. Having not learned to limit portion size, & having felt deprived while dieting, once off the "diet" you then binge & regain lost weight. Yo-yo weight loss/regain is unhealthy. There remains no substitute for eating a balanced diet, avoiding snacks, & exercising for long-term loss. ...Read more

How much weight/inches is it possible to loose in 20 days with exercising and a strict diet?

How much weight/inches is it possible to loose in 20 days with exercising and a strict diet?

2 lb/wk so 6 maybe: There is a difference between losing fat and losing water weight. And a rapid weight loss in a couple of weeks is often due to loss of fluid. A more reasonable goal is to lose 1 lb/wk over a longer period of time through a combination of healthy diet and exercise. See my guides on food and exercise. If health problems, get approval from your physician as appropriate. Thanks for asking! @drpam. ...Read more

How much eating is a bad binge when you are on a diet?

Depends: You need to know what your resting metablism rate is, from that you subtract 500cal/day to lose one pound per week. So if you just binged on over 2000cal ormore you are going to gain weight. Eat late- raise wt: Research suggests it's not sleeping after eating but eating late that causes weight gain- those who eat late ; stay up for several hours after gain more weight. I don't advise sleeping immediately after eating- stay sitting or standing at least an hour to avoid reflux. It is psychologically difficult to take even a single day off from exercising (guilty, less happy, etc.). Is this common and unhealthy? Suggestions?

Addictive: There are new studies out that show that exercise, beside releasing endorphins, release chemicals similar to those found in addictive drugs. Once you have become "addicted" to exercise (moderate exercise is a good addiction), the body does what ever it can to convince you to exercise on days that you skip. Substitute another pleasurable activity, meditation, jokes, etc, on days you skip exercise. ...Read more

Is eating less meals/skipping meals to lose weight actually bad? I've heard that "starvation mode" is only an issue if you are barely eating.

Is it normal to lose 4.5 pounds in 10 days? By only eating 900 calories and not exercising. Or is it dangerous?

Relative: That a wee bit restrictive. If you are morbidly obese, rapid weight loss is often not difficult. The first weight lost is often water. The liver contains glycogen which carries water. When that is expended water will go with it. If you are not obese & continue at a rate of loss this rapid- it may be too fast. If you are female - have you considered up'ing to 1, 200 calories. Talk to your doc. ...Read more

Please clarify: If, as a child, you persistently ate nonnutritive substances (inappropriate for your developmental level) you might have been diagnosed with pica. If, as an adult, you have a new and persistent desire to eat dirt, this would require evaluation by a psychiatrist/psychologist for an appropriate diagnosis. Is it normal for diabetics to purge after eating?

Is it normal for diabetics to purge after eating?

No: It is not normal for anybody to purge after eating. The gastrointestinal system in humans is designed to take in a normal amount of food, digest it for its nutrients and fuel, and then reabsorb water (to make solid poop) in the colon, and finally to poop in the appropriate place. If one's system is working well, it is abnormal for he or she to intentionally mess with it. ...Read more

Balance & moderation: You may be withholding too many calories or your meals may be too heavy on carbs. Better to graze and balance-have 3 meals and 2 snacks during the day. Balance meals to contain lean protein with low glycemic carbs and a bit of monounsat. Fat (olive oil, etc). Educate yourself on "good" and "bad" carbs and fats. Consider reading "a week in the zone".
