Is it possible for you to wear a walker boot whilst sleeping?

Is it possible for you to wear a walker boot whilst sleeping?

Yes: In fact, one part of treatment for plantar fasciatis is the wearing of a boot to keep the foot at a 90 degree angle to help reduce adhesions and subsequent tearing of them in the morning. Also keeps tendons, etc. Stretched in that position. A little tough rolling over , though. Good luck. ...Read more

Is a cam walker enough support for a 4 wk old avuls. Fracture of distal fib that is still swollen or should I strap as well? Not weight bearing.

Compression bandage: Yes, i think a compression bandage would be a good idea. Unless you have a pneumatic camwalker (ie one that you can pump air into) they tend to be too loose to provide enough immobilization and compression. Since you still have swelling, i think that a compression bandage that you wrap around your foot and ankle every morning and remove every night would be very helpful. ...Read more

Is it a good idea to use crutches for a bad sprain when you are out moving ?

Is it a good idea to use crutches for a bad sprain when you are out moving ?

Yes: I recommend you use crutches until you can walk normally. The limp is a sign your injury needs additional healing time. Hobbling around unnecessarily stresses a joint that's trying to heal and you are essentially practicing that limp, which may make it harder to shed when you're healed. I recommend an evaluation by a specialist and physical therapy might be a good idea. Good luck. ...Read more

When do you prescribe a cast vs a walking boot after foot and ankle injury?

When do you prescribe a cast vs a walking boot after foot and ankle injury?

They are similar: A cast and a walking boot are similar and accomplish many of the same goals. The main difference is that you can remove a walking boot but cannot remove a cast. Walking boots are great when the condition that you are treating is safe to remove from the immobilization temporarily, eg to take a shower.
