Sounds strange: If after exercise your heart rate is 85-90 and persists for many hours after you exercise, you may be out of shape. Your resting heart rate should return to what is normal for you with a few minutes to a hour or so (but it does depend on how much and how vigorously you exercised). I would question whether your resting heart rate is really in the 60s and might be higher than that ...Read more

Need a heart monitor: You should have a heart monitor to find out what type of heart rhythm you are actually having when you feel the irregularity. If you have something called atrial fibrillation it is important to get appropriate treatment. Please see your doctor about this. ...Read more

Tachycardia: Exertional tachycardia can be normal but when it is exaggerated as described, we would want to make sure there's not something wrong with the heart rhythm. A cardiologist would probably put you on a treadmill and monitor the EKG during exercise. ...Read more

Sounds: Sounds like you might have had orthostatic hypotension of which the #1 cause is dehydration. What happens is that your blood pressure drops instead of increases when you change positions causing the symptoms you describe. I've attached a website with good information about orthostatic hypotension. Basically, make sure you are staying well-hydrated during exercise to avoid this in the future. ...Read more

Was having a bad panic attack after I ate so I took two beta blockers but I still feel it pounding somewhat. Am I having a heart attack?

See your doctor: It is very rare for someone your age to have a heart attack. Talk to your doctor about your symptoms and appropriate treatment. Avoid the use of caffeine especially high energy drinks. If you smoke, quit. Palpitations can be a symptom of panic and anxiety. Your doctor can order an EKG and check your thyroid. Avoid any illicit drug use especially stimulants such as meth or cocaine. Best wishes! ...Read more

Heart beats hard when stand up and then sit down. Heart pounding with minimal exertion.18y old. Normal echo ekg holter and renal Doppler studies. Causes?

Heart pounding: Your normal ekg and echocardiogram are reassuring that you have a normal heart although coronary arteries are not evaluated in those studies. In your case symptoms appear both postural and with exertion. Postural orthostatic tachycardia syndrome, anemia, hyperthyroidism, low potassium or magnesium come to mind. A cardiologist is best qualified to evaluate you and can order the appropriate tests ...Read more

Horse and cart: I think you may have the cart before the horse. You're ill. You have a headache. Your BP and pulse rate respond to your stress and distress. Neither are abnormal enough to cause your symptoms. Do you have a fever? Do you get migraines? Have you had upset stomach? Vomiting? Diarrhea? Have you been exposed to someone ill? Have you been to W. Africa? You may have a "bug" that just needs to pass. ...Read more

Cardioneurosis?: I am finally getting some responses on Global Rounds. One of my colleagues suggests that you have Cardioneurosis, also known as Da Costa's syndrome. Another possibility is high parasympathetic tone, which might explain the reactive airways seen on PFTs. See http://www. Cardiac-neurosis. Com/ and https://www. Ncbi. Nlm. Nih. Gov/pubmed/20044211 for more info. Suggest Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) ...Read more

Hyperthyroidism can: And does tweak metabolic rates, which can be unsettling, psychologically, and stimulating, physiologically. Either can trigger a panic reaction, because anxiety in general, is designed to mobilize our resources in response to something we cannot manage or control. First, neutralize the effects of the thyroid, and then see a therapist for background psychology stuff. ...Read more

See an internist: Abnormal breathing is a symptom which can come from many different problems besides your lungs- from nervous system, to blood, to cardiovascular systems, etc
an internist is a doctor who is trained to think of all those possibilities and to narrow the possibilities through reasoning and examination, so that you don't miss obvious causes or go on a wild goose chase.

After exercising my heart rate wasn''t only real fast, but a hard irreglr,  jumpn beat, ice water ?

The Dr. Can evaluate: A person who has strong irregular heartbeats, with or without exercise, should see a primary care or cardiology doctor who can check the rhythm (with EKG or 24-hour holter monitor) at rest and perhaps on a treadmill while exercising. The cardiologist may do an ultrasound scan of the heart to look for abnormalities. One can ask to drink ice water during testing to see if the heart rate changes. ...Read more
