Are hypnic jerks bad? If so, how can I make them go away? I've heard that many people wake up from them, but I don't. People have told me I have them.

Sleep start: Sleep start is a normal finding and causes no known harm. Some people just feel a jerk in their whole body, and you do not need that somebody else tell you. Some people also feel that they are falling down. My experience as a sleep doctor tells me that this event if more frequent when you are worried.
There are other body movements that can be a sign of a disease.

Is dylantin a bad medication I was diagnosed with epilepsy in 2009 and since have been taking dylantin 100 mg 3x a day. But about 2months ago I began experiencing uncontrolable body jerking on my left side and is getting worse.

Hmmm....: I suspect that the left-sided jerking is seizure activity, and not a Dilantin side effect. Dilantin has been on the market since the 30s, as I recall. It's a bit more sedating that many of the newer seizure medications (head-to-head trials were done). But, it's not any worse at preventing seizures. It's time for you to discuss this with your neurologist or epileptologist. ...Read more

My son told me he has been jerking off. And he has been haveing a really bad sharp pain in the back of his head and neck. What could this be is it bad?

Masturbation : Masturbation is a natural and normal part of the human experience. So, I am very impressed that your son felt safe enough to talk to you about this. I wish there were more parents like you.

The headache could be related but there is little to go on here with your question. I can think that there is some intensity to his orgasm that even could cause a seizure-like reaction. I would see the doc. ...Read more

3 yr old normal speech until tonight. When talking her jaw moves left and right not up and down and she had a slight head/neck jerk. Is this bad?

Hard to say: Video this without her noticing what you are doing. Then schedule a visit with her pediatrician to review the video. It's just too difficult of a question to guess here. Seeing the video will help your pediatrician decide. Is this a new behavior? Is it worse if you are looking? Is there a family history of seizure disorder or tics? Does it resolve with sleep? ...Read more
