Cough benefits the host by reducing load and benefits the pathogen which may then spread via aerosol. ...Read more
I have a cough and have started moaning as I fall asleep. I've only ever done when I had pneumonia around 18 months ago. Should I be concerned?
Possibly: But cannot diagnose you over the internet. If you are feeling poorly it never hurts to get somebody to examine you. On the other hand, if you have no other symptoms (fever, chills, shortness of breath, chest pain, etc.) it is not likely that this is pneumonia (although atypical pneumonias do occur). Go and see a doctor. ...Read more
I fall asleep and then I wake up because I need to cough a lot and it makes me gag really hard. It's been like this for about 4 days.
A few thoughts: Could be secondary to sinus, postnasal discharge, but also could be due to stomach issue, gastroesophageal reflux (GERD). Of course, I cannot exclude a medication side effect (antihypertensives) or pulmonary issue, based on description. Check in with your doctor and get this pinpointed. ...Read more
