No: Some people with restless leg syndrome are iron deficient, but I am unaware of any connection with akasthesia, which usually is a result of a drug side effect. Withdrawing or lessening the dose of the offending drug is the primary treatment, and use of beta blockers and anticholinergic drugs like Cogentin (benztropine) etc. Are the next best things. Baclofen? Doubt it: I've never prescribed Baclofen for RLS. I'm sure someone has but none of my colleagues have. Problem is we don't know what causes RLS but we don't believe it is due to muscle spasms which is what baclofen would treat. We believe it's more along the lines of some type of neuropathy. Much lower than that: A hemoglobin of 11 is only mildly reduced. Anemia itself will not cause cardiac or more likely issues with oxygen transport until it is much lower. Exactly how low depends on whether there are pre existing cardiovascular issues. ...Read more

Fairly quickly: Bone marrow needs iron to make red blood cells. When the bone marrow is empty of iron it's termed iron deficiency. If left uncorrected, eventually leads to iron deficiency anemia. Symptoms of fatigue, irritability, headache and desire to eat ice may occur before anemia develops but are mostly noticed once one becomes anemic. Symptoms respond in less than a week.
