For children that have normal urinary tracts (normal kidneys, normal ureters, and normal bladders) most of these children that do not have known syndromes or medical conditions will have underlying metabolic disorders that affect the way the kidneys filter and process minerals. Some children have low citrate levels, some have high oxalate, and some have other conditions. It is critical to evaluate the stones composition and the 24 hour urine studies on a child with kidney stones and especially with a child that has multiple kidney stones. INGESTIONS: Check inside mouth with good light whether you see anything, any bleeding, watch for any distress in the child. Strain and watch stool for blood and the suspected object. Abdominal x-ray doesn't show glass. Give blend diet with more fiber, fluid. My daughter is 17 months old. She did not gain any weight  or height in the last 4 months. She is eating fine and is very active, so there are no other signs. What could be the problem?

Nothing: At that age, children don't gain weight and height as much as during the first 6 months of age, so you don't really have to measure her that often. So you can wait until your 18 month visit with the pediatrician and he/she will show you the growth curve that will demonstrate that she is doing fine. ...Read more
