Is Irregular Heartbeat And Palpitations Hereditary
Palpitation is also known as Pounding heartbeat. Palpitations are an awareness of extra heartbeats which most of us have. The sensation can be single or multiple and can sometimes last minutes. Different people may feel other symptoms along with them such as dizzy, lightheaded or short of breath. The palpitations are almost always atrial or ventricular premature beats. Usually benign but they are also ...Read more
Usually, none.: Irregular heartbeats usually only affect, well, the heart. It is a very rare rhythm disorder that is fast enough, and sustained for a long enough time, that one develops a profound drop in blood pressure. Only in these cases do you have compromise of other body parts (e.g. Fainting from brain hypoperfusion, or kidney dysfunction from low output). ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer
Not exactly: Palpitations usually describe an awareness of ones heart beat. Sometimes people are aware of a normal but more rapid heart beat, sometimes extra beats are the cause and in some, ongoing irregularity of the heart beat (most common example atrial fibrillation) may be the cause. ...Read more
Can anxiety cause palpitations? Almost a feeling like i have an irregular heartbeat which causes more worry, which cause more palpitations? A cycle
I've had irregular heartbeat/palpitations for years but this feels different. Brief episodes of intense rhythmic pain in my heart. What could this be?
Need a monitor: Your symptoms are most likely related to an irregularity in the heart (cardiac) rhythm. The kind of symptom complex you describe may be associated with a benign cardiac rhythm disturbance, like single premature beats, but it may also be associated with a more significant arrhythmia. A 24 hour cardiac monitor would be helpful in determining the cause of your spells. ...Read more

Is Long QT condition inherited or can be acquired? i've had 2 times in the past episodes of very fast, irregular heartbeat. tests ok, no holter test.
NothingOnTheQ-THere: Yes, it can be inherited and yes, it can be acquired (several medications can do it). I'm assuming that one of the "tests" you had was an EKG (test of the heart's electrical conduction system; they attach you to a bunch of wires and the result looks like a bunch of squiggly lines on graph paper). The EKG would tell you if the Q-T is too long. The Holter would be a good idea too, whatever the Q-T. ...Read more

Palpitations : Can be caused by a variety of things: stress and lack of sleep, due to increase in adrenaline, stimulants such as caffeine, drugs, anxiety, or paroxysmal arrhythmias. Or any combination of the above. They already ruled out hyperthyroidism, another potential cause. If symptoms continue you can ask for a holter monitor to evaluate your heart rhythm. ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer
Get checked: This could be normal response to anxiety, caffeine etc, but an irregular heart beat and/or palpitations can be early warning sign of a heart problem or reaction to other serious illness. A physician will need to know more about your history, medications, onset of irregularity and frequency and associated symptoms such as sweating, shortness of breath, weakness, dizziness, anxiety etc. ...Read more
