I'm have diarrhea about every hour, threw up once, took some Imodium, (loperamide) it helped a little, now trying pepto, trying to stay hydrated, anything else?
Loose stools is a symptom in which a person's stool (poop) does not hold its shape after it goes into the toilet. Instead of remaining a shaped piece of poop, the poop spreads out in the toilet bowl water. Very loose stool is called diarrhea. Loose stool can be caused by infections, certain foods or drinks, ...Read more

The: The Imodium (loperamide) is a good idea. A small amount of gatorade can be helpful, but too much can worsen diarrhea because of the glucose content. Try tea, water, and very small amounts of gatorade. Eating bananas, rice, and dry toast can be helpful. Avoid fruits and vegetables for at least a week. If your diarrhea worsens, you have fever or vomiting, or if you have been on antibiotics prior to this diarrhea, then you will have to see a doctor. ...Read more
Either, not both: Pepto bismol (bismuth subsalicylate), is used to relieve diarrhea, stomach upset, heartburn, stomach acidity, and nausea. Imodium (loperamide), is used in the treatment of diarrhea. There will seldom be a need for both, but there is no significant interaction that should prevent your taking them together, although generally unnecessary. ...Read more

I am having lots of mucus in my stool, intermittent diarrhea and constipation and stomach pain. It goes away with Imodium (loperamide) and pepto but returns.
Immodium seems to help with chronic diarrhea after surgery. However, it appears to cause severe bloating. Would pepto bismal help with bloating?
Assess your diet: Imodium (loperamide) is a motility modifier. It takes the number of squeeze messages in the gut & slows them down, so things are pushed along slower. If you are bloating, it is likely this effects how the gas your digestion makes moves along in the same way. You need to reduce gas producing foods in your diet (like cauliflower, beans) & take a probiotic to alter your gas production. Pepto may have a placebo effect ...Read more
What's the difference between Immodium and Pepto Bismol (bismuth subsalicylate) in terms of anti-diarrhea? Would either help with lower abdominal cramp + minor diarrhea?
Totally different: Imodium's active ingredient is loperamide, which slows down intestinal motility. Pepto-Bismol uses bismuth, which decreases secretions into the intestines. Slowing of the intestines can actually make cramping worse, and make it harder for the body to eliminate a GI infection, but may do a better job of preventing dehydration when vomiting is also present. ...Read more

How long does it typically take for Imodium (loperamide) to stop diarrhea and the horrible squeeze feeling?
Diarrhea for 5 days with no other symptoms. Any thoughts or suggestions on what it is or how to stop it. Imodium (loperamide) is not working.?
Had sgmoidoscopy due to diarrhea waiting on microbiopsy results taking imodium (loperamide) as still have diarrhea how long do I have to take this.
Yes: The bismuth in Pepto Bismol (bismuth subsalicylate) can cause black stools. This can be concerning because blood in the stool can also appear as black stool. But if you took the Pepto Bismol (bismuth subsalicylate) do not be alarmed with the black stool unless it persists well after the Pepto Bismol (bismuth subsalicylate) is out of your system. ...Read more
Husband started having diarrhea sunday morning. Cant seem to eat anything. Even brat diet. Feels fine otherwise. Pepto no longer working to stop it?
I have been having watery clear diarrhea all day and it has undigested food in it. I've taken pepto but nothing seems to be helping. What could be the?
Antibiotic diarrhea: No. Test for C difficile a bacteria associated with antibiotic induced diarrhea. If c diff treat with Flagyl/ vancomycin. Consider changing medication or stopping the med. Sometimes metamucil may also give bulk (even though it is used for constipation) as it absorbs water. Keep hydrated. Call your doc today and discuss ...Read more
No...: The most likely cause of this is a virus and needs to clear out of the GI tract. The most important thing to do is to keep your child well hydrated. If he is able to drink fluids (don't worry about solid foods at this time), then keep giving him liquids. Also take note of his urine output - if he is not urinating and looks dry, unable to take fluids, then take him to the nearest er for IV fluid. ...Read more
No: If you have diarrhea from salmonella, you can take clear liquids and a bland diet until the diarrhea resolves. You should not take imodium, (loperamide) as it will hold the bacteria in with the stool and cause your body to take extra time to clear it out of your system. If you develop fever, abdominal pain or blood in the stool you should see a doctor right away. ...Read more

I have diarrhea and I took pepto, how long should it take for it to kick in and will it stop me from vomiting?
Peptobismol: This medicine has a mild effect on stopping diarrhea, so you may continue to have symptoms. It probably won't help with vomiting at all. Your body is under attack - probably from a virus, and it is working to 'clear out' the germs. Try to sip fluids/chicken soup to replace lost salts/fluid. If feeling light-headed or wiped out, see a doc. You may need IV fluids if it's bad. Hope you feel better. ...Read more
I took pepto for diarrhea and gas but now it's dark/black, it says not to take pepto if it's like that, what should I do?
Black before...: Using pepto can be a sign of bleeding in gut (and/or iron pills, charcoal capsules). Pepto contains bismuth-can give black tongue (brush tongue after use) abd dark or black stool. Any symptoms like lightheadedness, palpitations, etc need to see MD ASAP, to check bleed, dehydration, etc ...Read more

I read Pepto Bismo is supposed to kill microbes that cause diarrhea. Is there any evidence it can help SIBO if you took it everyday for a while?
No: Pepto-Bismol by itself is not successful in killing those bacteria, and there is no evidence that chronic use of Pepto-Bismol helps in SIBO. I would recommend seeing the doctor who diagnosed your condition, to see if it needs treatment, and if so, what he or she recommends. It can be treated, just not with Pepto-Bismol. Good luck. ...Read more

Yes, maybe: Anti-diarrheal drugs are helpful in chemotherapy induced diarrhea. However, need to be sure that the diarrhea is from chemotherapy and not infectious -- such as clostridium difficile toxin (cdt) induced diarrhea. Cdt pcr can detect. In that case the bodies natural reaction is to get rid of the toxin by voiding with diarrhea. That diarrhea needs antibiotics for a potentially prolonged time. ...Read more
