Hypertension can be a result of increased blood flow through vessels or increased resistance to ...Read more

Is brown rice healthy for consumption for a type 2 diabetic? I like brown rice veggie sushi, is it a healthy choice for me? Thanks.
Better than white: Rice -whether it is white or brown is a carbohydrate and should be eaten in a limited amount when you have dm. Brown rice is a better choice because it is higher in fiiber and tends to have better effect on blood sugars. I usually encourage my pts w dm to stay < 30-45grms/meal in women and < 45-60 in men- rice i feel is a carb that encourage getting rid of and focusing on increased veggies. ...Read more

Probably not: Most b-100's contain b3 in the form of niacineamide, which does not lower cholesterol, not niacin. The doses of Niacin shown to lower cholesterol are at least 500 mg/day. But while Niacin lowers LDL & raises hdl, it's not clear if this lowers risk of heart disease, in part because cholesterol is not the main cause of heart disease. See http://www.Ccjm.Org/content/79/1/38.Full re: Niacin & comment:. ...Read more

Yes if you like it.: A good "diet" should consist of a variety of foods. There are no foods to exclude, just eat them in proper proportion. Total caloric intake is far more important than the ratio of fat to protein to carbohydrate. Diet implies temporary and "diets" are generally discouraged as they do not maintain weight loss. Wt loss and maintenance is not solved by a diet but by lifestyle change. ...Read more

Essential: Sodium is essential for cellular processes and is regularly excreted from the body, necessitating us to replenish it along with Potassium, magnesium, and other elements.
