Will my hCG levels continue to double with a blighted ovum? Mine are more than doubling ges sac measuring 5w5d however i'm 5w2d. Hcg 4967 no yolk sac

Generally not: If your HCG is doubling and the sac is approx. Consistent with your dates, chances are that you do not have a blighted ovum - could be a normal pregnancy. Keep checking sonos and hcg's - may need intervention if signs of fetal activity / growth are not evident. Good luck. ...Read more

Is carrying twins considered a high risk pregnancy? My friend is pregnant with twins. Does this mean she has a high risk pregnancy?

.

Yes: "high risk" means greater supervision. With twins, your friend will be seen more often at her provider than if she was carrying one baby. She needs more Folic Acid for 2 babies, may have extra morning sickness, and has slightly higher risk for miscarriage. Mom's with twins are watched for gestational diabetes, toxemia, placental abruption, and premature birth. Some twins come by c-section. ...Read more

Hcg level not doubling saw a heartbeat rate 115 at 6 weeks. High chance of miscarriage?

Advanced maternal ag: Unfortunately it is a watch and wait scenario. After the age of 35 the risk of miscarriage is much higher. The pregnancy hormone does not exactly have to double but it does need to rise and we hope for the heart rate to stay 120-180. ...Read more

Is a high def ultrasound common with twins?

????: Don't quite know what you mean. All our fetal sonos are done with the highest possible definition. There are a few more things we evaluate with twins such as the number of placentas and the sac anatomy. Or as we are fond of saying, "twice the work for the same fee!". ...Read more

Progesterone level was 48 at 7 weeks pregnant with twins. Is this low? What is a good range?

Progesterone level was 48 at 7 weeks pregnant with twins. Is this low? What is a good range?

Normal: Absolutely fine. No worries. Good luck! that number would tell us with patients on vaginal Progesterone that the placenta has taken over completely the production of progesterone. For im dosing patients depending on the dose given, the number is very healthy and likely represents mid transition phase. If you are not on Progesterone this number is great and don't know why it was measured? ...Read more

Why are triplet pregnancies considered much higher risk than twins?

Why are triplet pregnancies considered much higher risk than twins?

Earlier, smaller: The risk of preterm birth is higher for several reasons; triplet birth is likely to be earlier than that of twins. In addition, there is greater risk of growth problems, deformations from crowding, malpresentation. For the mother of triplets, the risks from abdominal delivery are higher than those of women with twins delivered vaginally and possibly abdominally, depending on the size and position. ...Read more

Is it true that the chance of conceiving twins is higher after a recent miscarriage?

Is it true that the chance of conceiving twins is higher after a recent miscarriage?

No: I've never hear that statistic before. Twins have a genetic susceptibility (meaning they run in families). Being older at conception (like late 30's) also increases chances. To my knowledge pregnancy after a miscarriage doesn't increase chance. ...Read more

Dr. Is it true that after 1st pregnancy miscarriage there is a chances of having twins in next pregnancy? Taking folic acid increases twins chances?

No evidence: I had never heard this but searched and found many forums where people said they had heard this, but I could find NO research that shows this is actually true and can not think of why it would be. I did find a study showing women who got pregnant within 6 months of miscarriage had better outcomes. Folic acid does not increase chance of twins but decreases chance of miscarriage & birth defects. ...Read more

Hcg levels continue to double mine are more than doubling ges sac measuring 5w5d however i'm 5w2d. Hcg 4967 no yolk sac. Ovulated 18aug?

Perfect: Your #'s are perfect. For an ovulation of 8/18, and therefore a conception date shortly thereafter, you're measurements are right on, and your HCG is correlating perfectly with these numbers. A yolk sac will likely form in next few days. You should heart a heart beat in about 7 more days. No worries at all! ...Read more

I'm pregnant with twins about 6 weeks progesterone is 9.1 is that normal?

No: Generally Progesterone levels should be very high in early pregnancy and over 100 is not uncommon. With twins it should be higher. The fact that it is 9.1 is probably not a good sign and may suggest that you are miscarrying. The best way to tell what is happening is to get an ultrasound. Good luck. ...Read more

If chances of conception increase in 2 embryo transfer IVF Why doc recomend single embryo?what are risks of 2 embryo apart from twins?

If chances of conception increase in 2 embryo transfer IVF Why doc recomend single embryo?what are risks of 2 embryo apart from twins?

It's all about twins: Twins are a little bit trickier pregnancy. Twinning with 2 embryos is as high as 20-30%. In the US the ASRM allows 1 or 2 embryos in a 29 year old woman, but recommends only one. Personally I believe this is patient's choice and do NOT recommend 1 vs. 2, but that's me. Your info says you are 29 and in the UK? I do not know the UK standard of care but the science is the same. Best wishes! ...Read more
