If Gabapentin is the only thing you have tried, you have many more medication options such as Topamax, (topiramate) which now comes as extended release once daily called Trokendi XR. Elavil, Pamelor, Doxepin, and Tofranil are also options.These latter four are also once daily medications. Help too with sleep. You have even more option than these so talk to your provider about a switch with gaba wean. ...Read more

Ask: Your doc to taper you off. This medication is not indicated for anxiety. In fact, I have to be honest: many in the psychiatric field wonder what this medication is good for. ssri's like the Celexa (citalopram) are top shelf anxiety treatment but, as opposed to use for depression, the dosages usually need to be more robust. Still on Citalopram?: Especially in combo, grogginess is a common side effect. It has a short 1/2-life (~7hrs) so, if you stop - after 7rs you'll have 50mg in you., then 25, then 12.5, then 6.25, etc. In 2-3 days - all gone! I usually urge people who are not happy w/ side effects to consider psychotherapy as a way to reduce or eliminate need for meds. Think about CBT for anxiety mgmt skills.
