No: It is not. It's one of the safest medications on the market and is often used to treat nerve pain, headaches, seizures and other conditions. Rarely, it can be associated with depression and occasionally it causes forgetfulness, weight gain or leg swelling, but the overwhelming majority of people who take it tolerate it fairly well and it does not interact with any other medication. ...Read more

I am on 50 mg tramadol and 300 mg Neurontin (gabapentin) for bilateral ulnar nerve compression. And am still in pain. Is there a better medicine? (no narcotics)
Ulnar neuropathy: Actually the dose of Gabapentin you are taking is low. We routinely start low to prevent side effects then titrate slowly to higher doses. Target doses for my patients can go into the 3000 mg per day range. If this fails then other meds lyrica, (pregabalin) Cymbalta are worth trying. Also may be worth having an ulnar injection to reduce nerve irritation. ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer
I have spinal stenosis & deg disc disease. I've tried a host of NSAIDs, narcotics, ESIs & gabapentin/amitriptyline & PT. I haven't found much relief?
Back pain relief: You seem to have a chronic back pain syndrome. You should have an EMG performed to rule out a definite nerve compression. You can also try nerve blocks normally performed by pain management or neurostimulator implants. If pain is significant and or causing weakness then surgical intervention may need to be considered. Other neuropathic meds are available. ...Read more
Was addicted to opiates for years bc chronic nerve pain (CRP) Now on suboxone. Pain intolerable. Had surgery, lyrica, (pregabalin) gabapentin, (can't take NSAID - bleed.) Non -narcotic suggestion? Any help at all?
Think holistically: Medications are one way of controlling nerve pain. Pain is a complex holistic process. You may be able to decrease need for meds by addressing other issues. That includes nutrient status, stress or emotional trauma that may have accompanied or pre-dated the injury, and movement and use of the limb. It's a complex topic. You might look for a doc who does integrative or functional medicine. ...Read moreSee 2 more doctor answers

Anticonvulsant : Neurontin ( gabapentin) is in the class of anticonvulsants. I am not aware that it will cause a + drug screen. I am currently in a drug court program and subject to random drug screens, would it be safe for me to take gabapentin?
Not Likely: It is unlikely that Neurontin (Gabapentin) will trigger a false positive urine test for drugs. However, if you are taking other medications then these medication may alone or in combination with Neurontin trigger a positive urine screen. Also, poppy seeds and other foods, fermented or otherwise may result in positive screen. Here's a reference: http://dig.pharm.uic.edu/faq/2011/Feb/faq1.aspx ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer

Smaller doses of gabapentin better then higher doses? Bioavailability seems higher with lower doses so wouldn't you get more of the drug on lower dose
Gabapentin: true but at the same time you need a high dose of gabapentin in your system for it to work. Usually 1200mg. So lets say you take 300mg, and you absorb all 300... thats great but all you have is 300mg in your system. Now take 900mg. Lets say bioavailability fall to 75%. Well 75% of 900 is still way more in your system than 300mg. Oral absorbtion is generally like this. ...Read more
Is it true that green tea interacts with no of drugs, if so does it have interaction with gabapentin or seretide inhalor?
What test is used to test soley for neurontin (gabapentin)? I recently took a ten panel urine drug screen, can they pull out of that 10 panel screen? Please help
Doubt it: Nobody, as far as i know, is testing for neurontin (gabapentin), (gabapentin) and there are no test kits designed for neurontin (gabapentin). If you are prescribed the drug, you have a right to take it. If you aren't, it is not a controlled substance. If you are using Neurontin (gabapentin) without a prescription, you need to talk to your doctor about a prescription for it. The Klonopin and percocet, however, will likely show up. ...Read more
