Are low non-fasting triglyceride levels (46 mg/dL) concerning if my diet is actually very normal (quite a lot of carbs, full-fat dairy)?

Stop worrying: Reference ranges are set so that a few percent of healthies fall outside. I'm going to assume you're basically healthy. Especially, low triglycerides means nothing. Relax and be thankful for good health. ...Read more

Could a sed rate be elevated with mercury poisoning from too much tuna (eating a can of tuna everyday for years?) other symptoms: weak & can't walk.

Unlikely: Do you really have mercury poisoning from eating canned tuna? May be a need to contact the epa if this is correct. You could very well possess a peripheral neuropathy, but is your problem localized there or is there a spinal cord issue instead? Sed rate is not usually a marker of poisoning, and may be indicative of a vasculitis or even diabetes. Is your diagnosis truly confirmed? ...Read more

What number of 6 oz servings of swordfish would a mother have to eat to have high enough blood levels of mercury to cause developmental problems?

What number of 6 oz servings of swordfish would a mother have to eat to have high enough blood levels of mercury to cause developmental problems?

Nobody knows: Nobody has been able to demonstrate an effect of mercury in ordinary fish-eating even in countries where a lot is consumed (the Faroes, the Seychelles, Australia). The EPA advice against all women and children eating any swordfish is political -- and no surprise from an agency that once declared sandbox sand a cause of cancer. I find no realistic basis for fear. ...Read more

Should i be concerned about a WBC of 10.5 and a lymphocyte level of 4077? Calcium, ALT & AST levels are also elevated. No symptoms.

My son,17,has 54.3 hematocrit and 18.3 hemoglobine. Is too high? All other values are normal.Could it be a sign of use of some sort of drug?

Polycythemia: A hemoglobin of 18.3 is just below the acceptable normal range of 18.5 in a male (some sources consider 18 to be cutoff). Any condition that causes an increase in red blood cell production by the bone marrow will cause an elevated hematocrit. A serious form of this is called poylcythemia vera, other conditions include living in high altitudes, tumors, heart&lung problems, etc. ...Read more

Does eating fish still have any health benefit with all the mercury that's in it? Is wild caught a better option rather than farm?

No evident harm: Mercury occurs normally in the environment. Overdose / toxicity scenarios are very frightening, but in studies of folks who eat a lot of fish with measurable mercury (faroes, seychelles, new zealand), nobody's been able to show an effect on the brain, and in some studies kids eating lots of fish do better, perhaps because of it, despite more mercury. ...Read more

Nope!: In fact, many types of fish have high levels of omega 3 fatty acids, which will help the baby's brain development, so fish is a great thing to eat while nursing. Salmon, especially has high levels of these unsaturated fats. The breasts are good filters and less mercury comes thru in the milk than is actually in your bloodstream.
