What happens if a child got 2 prevnar (pneumococcal vaccine) vaccines between the age of 2-11 months old but then didn't follow up with the third?

What should be a normal level of HBsAb 4 weeks post vaccination with 3 shots of twinrix?

What should be a normal level of HBsAb 4 weeks post vaccination with 3 shots of twinrix?

Any HBsAb is normal: Any antibody at all is "normal" after vaccination. Assuming other hep B tests (HBsAg, HBcAb) are negative, your positive test is the result of immunization and shows you are protected. Don't worry about the specific numerical result, which can vary widely from one person to the next. In fact, usually such testing isn't done. Why were you tested? ...Read more

Intermittent fever for a month. Comes at night, the highest it generally reached is 99.4. 97.7-98.7 is my normal range. CBC, thyroid, and mono neg. ?

Need more info: Technically, this is still not a fever. However if this happens every night and and is associated with night sweats,I would be more concerned about infections such as Tb or Lymphoma(particularly Hodgkins), or thyroid problems. ...Read more

What is benefit of Synagis (palivizumab) for baby with TOF pre repair surgery?hes 3 months old pink tet no other issues. Is it necessary at this point in RSV season

What is benefit of Synagis (palivizumab) for baby with TOF pre repair surgery?hes 3 months old pink tet no other issues. Is it necessary at this point in RSV season

Important question: A 3 month old TOF patient could develop life threatening bronchiolitis due to RSV and even if it was mild, would make the kid unsuitable for surgery for a significant period afterward.Treated infants can still get RSV but it would be mild. If you can get it approved, its a no brainer to me. I've watched far too many infants struggle with this disease over several decades. ...Read more

I contracted measles a year ago, 20 yr old male, is a complication like sspe likely, given no past history of measles or vaccine?

Possibly: But not likely. Are you symptomatic? Subacute sclerosing panencephalitis (sspe) is a rare chronic, progressive encephalitis that affects children and young adults, by persistent infection with measles virus (which can be due to viral mutation). No cure is known, but it can be managed by medication if treatment is started early. See a neurologist. ...Read more

Should a healthy adult get a pneumonia (PV13) injection followed by a PPSV23 six-12 months later? Is it important?

Pneumonia vaccine: im not sure why a healthy 61 year old would require both vaccinations. The ppsv33 is a pneumococcal vaccination already so no need to get another one after the first one. ...Read more

Is fever after every vaccintaion normal? Does it signal a weak immune system? I'm concerned because my son always seems to get one after a shot.

Is fever after every vaccintaion normal? Does it signal a weak immune system? I'm concerned because my son always seems to get one after a shot.

Depends on vaccine: Not all vaccines cause fever, some more likely than others. For example the Dtap vaccine and the VZV and MMR vaccines which are live vaccines are more likely to have a fever associated with them. It does not signal a weak immune system, in fact it most likely means the pt's immune response to the vaccine is good. Treat the fever for its uncomfortable symptoms. ...Read more

Despite having had the whooping cough vaccine as a child, I still got a mild case of it at age 7. How does this happen?

How diagnosed?: Immunity to even repeated pertussis vaccine can wane. Admittedly, at age 7 most children that have had a full series of Pertussis vaccine (TDaP or similar) are protected from Pertussis. You were young, but was a Pertussis swab obtained from your nose? Any antibody tests done to check your immunity since then? I say this because it is impossible to diagnose pertussis accurately without those. ...Read more
