Doctor insights on:
Is Drinking Too Much Milk Unhealthy
It can be: Vegans think any amount of milk after you are "weaned" from mothers milk is unnecessary and unhealthy. Milk has large amounts of cholesterol and fat. If you drink skim milk of 1% low-fat milk, you reduce much of the problem, but still should limit your intake. Some people who get kidney stones are taking in too much calcium, which milk has a great deal of. Moderation in all things is good.See 1 more doctor answer
Yes: Eating/drinking too much of anything could affect the color and character of your stools.
Probably yes: There is no consensus on this & research studies show conflicting results but i say more water & less milk! i believe cow's milk is the perfect food for baby cows but not for adult humans! if you do drink milk i strongly advise choosing rbgh-free & ideally organic milk from grass-fed cows.. Hi there, ive heard drinking too much milk can be bad for you, is drinking 1.5 litres a day too much?
Get fat: If you are not lactose intolerant, not much problem unless you have significantly reduced intake of other food items especially those containing fiber. In that case, you may end up very constipated. On the other hand, if you eat the normal amount of food and at also drink 2 gallons of milk a day, you will likely gain weight.
Yes, it can Kiki7.: Milk contains less iron than solid foods, such as meat, poultry, fish, eggs, dry beans, tofu, spinach, kale, etc. Vitamin c- containing foods: oranges, tomatoes, broccoli, cantaloupe etc. Enhance iron absorption. Cow's milk has large proteins, causing microscopic bleeding in the gut, i.e. Iron loss. It is allergenic. Animals drink milk only when babies. Why should human adults drink milk?
Too much milk: No problem that i know of.Get a more detailed answer ›
No: Too much cow milk can cause microscopic gut injury & blood loss leading to anemia. We encourage parents to limit toddlers milk intake to 16-24 oz/day.Lactose intolerance is caused by genetic lack of, or acquired loss(ie chronic diarrhea) of the enzyme lactase from the absorptive surfaces in the gut.
Lactose: That is what lactose intolerance is. It is caused by an insufficiency of the lactase enzyme in the intestine. Milk can be purchased that is lactose free or can be treated with enzymes to break down the lactose sugar. Aged cheeses and yogurt are better tolerated than milk by people with lactose intolerance. The fat content does not significantly affect lactose, skim is not better than regular milk.
No: Good for you lots of vitamins here too
Only if: If the milk drinking is excessive to the point that someone becomes obese and already insulin-resistant, then one could say that the excessive caloric intake from the milk is part of the problem in that it is contributing to weight gain. By itself, excessive milk drinking may not cause type 2 diabetes, but it can cause other problems.See 2 more doctor answers
No. : Pale stools suggests failure to absorb fat... This can be a sign of serious problems. Please seek attention from an actual doctor. You may need to see a GI doc to get 'worked up', ie to investigate the problem more fully.
Not that i know of: usually yellow stools are a sign that the pancreas isn't working properly, or you aren't getting enough bile from your liver/gallbladder into the intestines to help you digest fat. We are the only mammals that consume milk after our childhood, and large amounts of milk are really not healthy for us, mostly from the fat and cholesterol that is in it. Are you having any abdominal pain? See your MD.
I heard my 22 month old may be drinking too much milk? He drinks 36 oz day .He has a healthy weight, and iron count, and does not get constipated. Not sure if I should limit his milk consumption?
I certainly would: I recommend milk consumption limited to a maximum of 24 oz a day, because of high risk of iron deficiency associated with higher milk consumption. As you know the regular homogenized milk has very low iron content, and excessive milk intake satisfies small toddlers' hunger so that they tend not to eat other healthy foods. I also would ask his doctor to run a test called ferritin.See 1 more doctor answer
Can drinking too much milk cause hyperkalemia? Just wondering as milk is a decent Source of potassium and ive been drinking more of it latelym
Should be ok for...: What is too much is hard to define. In reality, most persons have a pair of kidneys with a wide range of functional reserve to automatically manage what you consume. Nonetheless, testing serum electrolytes once will bring a firm reassurance; that is a easy thing to do. Plane speculation will impose much pressure of unnecessary anxiety and even fear. More, seek counseling.
