Sir I'm 16. I go to the gym. Does doing squats stunt growth of height? Similarly I've been told weight lifting stunt growth. Is it true?

Do weightlifting stunt growth in teenage boys with arm work, squats no deadlift kinda thing, does the body use energy on muscle instead of bone growth?
Not Really: There are areas of bone growth at the end of long bones, called epiphyseal plate(s). This is where we get "height" and "length" of our extremities. It has been shown if young males, particularly, engage in heavy resistance exercise too early, before these plates have fully developed, the length of these long bones can be muted. It is not excessive, meaning a 6'5" male will not become 5'11". ...Read more
I'm kalyan 21yrs by this nov12.I'm just 5'7.I want to increase "will kicking, stretching exercises, inversion exercise, hanging, jumping increase my heigh?
No: I know of nothing that will increase your height. Very rarely people do grow a bit in height after 21, but over 99% of the time one has stopped growing by age 21 & i know of nothing that will change that. While not as tall as average (average height in the us for caucasians is about 5'10", but 5'7" for hispanics) you are not unusually short. Given this is unlikely to change, it is wise to accept it. ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer
How do you build wrist strength? The only thing i've done is curls up/down while arm on edge of bed - 3pound weights. Any other effective techniques?
OK: That is a good start. Also rotate wrist 90 degrees and do same curls (now up/down) that actually are l--r side-to-side motion. When can do large #reps, then move to 5lb weight. ...Read more
Is 40 kg grip strength in dominant hand considered weak after chronic hand injury done measurment was done by jamar instrument
What : What is your strength on the opposite side? 40kg is about 88 pounds. I know my own grip strength is about that and i wouldn't consider myself "weak" but I am also rather petite. I made it through orthopaedic training without ever breaking 100 pounds of grip strength. If you're occupation involves heavy gripping, this might be "weak" for you. Worker's compensation tends to perseverate on "objective" measures, such as jamar dynamometers, to establish levels of "disability" but they have little to do with clinical function. What's more important than the absolute number is how it compares to you non-dominant hand (it should be about 20% stronger) and how functional your hand is in your daily activities. ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer

In rare cases, growth hormone is approved for use in younger, extremely short kids. ...Read more

Why does BMI increase when one starts weight training and replacing fat with muscle mass? Weight increases while becoming leaner, but BMI increases?
Not perfect!: Bmi only takes into account weight and height. That is good enough for most people but for people that exercise a lot and have a lot of muscle it is not a good reflection of their actual fitness. Muscle weighs more than fat so the bmi can increase even though you are in better shape. Most pro athletes have bmis that are in the "wrong" range. Worry about your overall health and not the number. ...Read more
