No: Diarrhea is not a sign of gallbladder disease. Diarrhea can occur in some patients after having the gallbladder surgically removed, due to excessive bile release into the intestines. Post gb surgery: This is very distressing for you. The gall bladder used to store up bile that is necessary for fat digestion. I would recommend taking digestive enzymes with any meal that has fat in the food (that means most meals) to digest the fat. You also may have many food sensitivities or allergy. Give it some time...: The body has to adapt to the gall bladder missing and it may result in loose stools for 1-2 months. There is no longer a place to store bile, so it all goes into the intestine and has to be reabsorbed. Black stool (Melena): If the stools were truly black (the color of old fixed phones) and you are not on iron or other materials that create black stools there is a possibility this represents blood that is old or from the upper GI tract.
