Depends on cause: Perioral dermatitis means irritation of the skin by the mouth. By itself it is not contagious. However, there are many causes for dermatitis, some of which are infectious in nature. Variable: Dermatitis is a broad term meaning "inflammation of the skin" there are some conditions mostly microbial (virus/bacteria) that are spread by direct contact. There are some spread by other means like chicken pox which is caught by spread of "fomites" or sputum like the common cold. They can return to day care or school 24-48 hrs after the fever is gone even if some rash persists.
