My 2 month old is extremely squirmy during feedings. He is hungry, but almost fights me when I give him the formula. Is this a sign of reflux?
Perhaps: If your baby is developing " aversive" symptoms to feeding, turning her head, pushing away the bottle, yet still seems hungry, i want to see her immediately for a thorough history and physical exam. If persistent emesis and weight loss exist, this is additional cause for concern. This could be anything from reflux, to serious heart disease. Common in toddlers: Toddlers and babies have immature brains. They are prone to having hiccups more than older children and adults. You can have the doctor check for any other causes, but it is likely normal. I have never seen hiccups from an enlarged spleen. Possibly: Irritabilty is a symptom of depression but also of other illnesses as well, such as bipolar disorder. To have depression he would need to have more symptoms than just irritability. Another option to consider is he could have problems coping with things and needs anger management. Likely reflux: Most likely your newborn is experiencing gastroesophogeal reflux, a common condition in babies. Try keeping baby elevated (head up), during feedings and for 20 minutes or so after feedings. Be sure not to overfeed.
