Is cod liver oil used to treat mild arthritis, safe to use despite recent stories of pollutants?

Cod liver oil is: Rich in vitamin a and d. It was given to millions of kids at one time for the vitamin d mostly when rickets was a more common problem in the us. I think theres a few times i saw the "little rascals" get there cod liver oil on old reruns. Im not sure if there is a true arthritis connection, but rickets is a bone disease from too little vitamin d and perhaps thats how the connection has been made. ...Read more

Can cod liver oil good for hepatitis b patients?

I don't think so: Some physicians believe that fish oils are helpful for inflammation and/or blood lipid problems. I have no reason to believe that this will specifically help hepatitis b though it could help the joint disease. The obviously-false internet claim that it "cures hepatitis b" is sucker bait; if it did, some of the nih piranhas would have made their reputations by proving it. ...Read more

Is it ok to take 300mg x 3 cod liver oil tablets a day as a source of dha, epa and omega3? Any side effects? Benefits significant?

Unknown: Cod liver oil and other fish oil supplements are fairly good sources of o3fa of which dha and epa are two types. The exact dietary requirements are unknown. Se's are uncommon but some preps may contain contaminants. There are a lot of purported benefits to o3fa and dha in particular but they are still unsubstantiated . My advice would be to eat more fish on a regular basis and skip the supplements. ...Read more

Be careful: There is very little data to suggest that omega-3 fish oil helps with speech delay. There was one study published in 2009 that has not be replicated.
