Patella femoral : If your pain is in front/under your knee cap, then most likely patella femoral pain syndrome/chondromalacia patella. Best managed with exercise to strengthen your quads to improve tracking, and avoiding deep knee bending activities. Also oral or topical nsaids can be of benefit, as well as a brace. RICE: Hard to be sure without knowing where it hurts and examining you. In general a brief trial of Rest Immobilization Compression and Elevation may help. Don't overdo any of these but you can use cold packs or a bottle of cold water and a gently wrapped 4-6" Ace as a form of first aid treatment. Will probably subside but you can add Alleve or Motrin if you don't have stomach problems. ...Read more

Avoid aggravating: Excess weight can put a strain on the joints and promote pain with even normal every day activities. Specific foods or supplements won't help much. Strengthening the supporting muscles will, and walking and other quadriceps strengthening exercise should help. Avoid, when possible, those activities that cause pain.
