I have pretty severe hayfever. I recently relocated to San Antonio TX, which is one of the allergy capitals of the US. I have visited here for many years in the Fall, and have noticed a bad reaction to Mountain Cedar - bad headaches, sore throat, itchy
Very common as it's: High pollen count make many people feel sick there. Make sure you have a HEPA filter at home, and change your filter in your car too if you drive a lot. Take shower when you get home, and wash hair, put clothes in sealed hamper (basically decontaminate when you get in), leave jacket, shoes at door to keep your indoor environment clean and restful. May need to take OTC allergy pills to help too. ...Read more

Stop the drip: Depending on the cause of the sinus drainage: allergy, infection, etc. If allergy: try antihistamines like claritin, zyrtec, etc which are otc, nasal salt water rinses, and get a prescription steroid nasal spray from your doctor if that doesn't help. Some thoughts...: New throat pain can be from a strep throat infection (antibiotics needed), a cold or influenza (antibiotics usually not used), or from some other cause such as allergies or irritants. Throat lozenges and Tylenol (acetaminophen) or Motrin (ibuprofen) may lessen pain. ...Read more
I have a sore throat for the past 3 days. I am not sure if It is an infection or something to do with my sinus. The pain smoothes with hot drinks?
See Family physician: If you have drainage from your nose you may have sinusitis, that at night causes post nasal drainage and you wake up with a sore throat. But you may actually have a tonsillar infection that in your age must be ruled out not to be Strep. Please see your family physician and he may do a culture of your throat. If positive for Strep. You need to take antibiotics per your doctor. ...Read more

Salty taste: With infections of the nose or throat, the taste buds are indirectly and directly affected. First, your sense of smell contributes to your taste and with a sinus infection your sense of smell will be decreased. Second, where there is a sore throat, there is swelling & inflammation that will directly affect the taste buds, which will cause them not to work that well. Salt taste persists the best. ...Read more

Can laryngitis be treated? About 6 days ago I developed a sinus infection and sore throat. After 2 days those symtpoms vanished, but now have had laryngitis for 4 days. How can I treat this?
Laryngitis: The cure for acute laryngitis is unfortunately as elusive as the cure for common cold. Both respond best to home remedies as medical science has for now nothing better to offer. For laryngitis allow voice rest, hot thick drinks like warm milk or tea with honey, hydration/humidification, let it run its course - should resolve within 2 weeks. ...Read more

Arm sling, vitamin C: If you can move your arm, chances are that it is not fractured. So, most likely a soft tissue injury. Take some over the counter advil or aleve (naproxen) (if you are not allergic) and wear a sling to keep your arm still. If the pain continues or gets worse, get evaluated by a physician and get xray. For your cold symptoms, take 4 grams of vitamin C and an antihistamine (if not allergic). See MD if necessary ...Read more
