Surgical resection of both primary and metastatic lesion, radiation (external beam or targeted), chemotherapy, hormone suppression, arterial embolization, and other treatments are all options. Your oncologic team should work with you on you. ...Read more

If lymph nodes were clear and a typical lung carcinoid was removed stage 1 can it have gone to the liver?

Highly unlikely: Typical lung carcinoids grow very slowly, the slowest on average of all lung cancers. And they metastasize late in their development. For a stage I (less than 3cm by definition) typical lung carcinoid to have metastasized to the liver before spreading to any local or regional lymph nodes is highly unlikely. And Lung carcinoids are more likely to metastasize to bone, GI carcinoids go to liver. ...Read more

Why didn't mt. Surgeon mention that there was 4 nodules found on my liver before lung surgery for a carcinoid tumour?

Why didn't mt. Surgeon mention that there was 4 nodules found on my liver before lung surgery for a carcinoid tumour?

May be related: Depending on the findings associated with the primary tumor, resection of a primary carcinoid is reasonable even in the setting of disease in the liver. Disease in the liver can become a problem and therefore clarification of what the lesions represent and how to watch them over time should be discussed with the md. ...Read more

Deoxygenated blood enters the lungs from the right side of the heart and travels to the lungs. When you inspire, oxygen flows into the lungs, transverses the capilliares and attaches to hemoglobin down a gradient. At the same time, co2 diffuses into the capilaries and is expelled with exhalation. Oxygen rich blood then flows to the left side of the heart and into the ...Read more
