Diagnosed w/ non-viral bronchitis. Been on meds for 4 days, now fever came back. Am I contagious again? Why did it come back?

You had: Antibiotics only for 4 days?! if I understand you that could be why it came back. Even if it was longer you just might need an extended course or a change of the antibiotic. Call your prescribing doc. ...Read more

Grandaughter was treated for bronchitis 2 weeks ago, now diagnosed with flu after amoxicillin didn't work, is she contagious? Just started tamiflu (oseltamivir)

Get her tested: Sounds like a viral illness or a couple back to back. Most bronchitis in children is viral. Very rarely is it ever bacterial. Question is whether it is actual influenza or surmised to be. I'm not surprised the Amoxicillin didn't work, antibiotics don't treat viruses, but the tamiflu (oseltamivir) won't work if it's not actual influenza. She's probably contagious with whatever virus she's got. ...Read more

How long is someone contagious for when they have the common cold, flu, or bacterial / viral bronchitis?

Contagious periods: The contagious period differs for each type of infection, even among different viruses! There is a range of values based on different infections ranging from common cold to influenza. These vary from 24 hours to up to 2 weeks! You should ask your physician what infection you have and for how long you will be contagious. Common sense dictates that respiratory viruses travel by cough or sneeze. ...Read more

I have had bronchitis for 5 days. I have also had fever everyday running 100 to 101. Is this normal to run fever this long?

Depends: Do not know how the diagnosis of bronchitis was made, so cannot clearly assess. If you have had persistent fever you may need further assessment depending upon your associated symptoms. If this continues another day would see a doctor and be evaluated further. Hope you feel better soon. ...Read more

What to do for a child with bronchitis, off and on fever, and coughing?

What to do for a child with bronchitis, off and on fever, and coughing?

See doctor: Bronchitis is almost always a viral infection, although children can have pertussis (whooping cough). Fever may occur with this. If, however, the fever is quite high, the character of the sputum is changing or looks like pus, the child is having problems breathing, or is otherwise worsening, then a visit to your doctor would be a good idea. ...Read more

Hi can you have bronchitis without a fever? . And how do you know if you have it is there a test for it? . Where can u buy it what's the symptoms of it.

Lotta coffin: Yes, you can have what's called "bronchitis" without a fever, or much else but a cough. The cough can vary and also what you may spit-up. At your age if you DON'T have a fever or spitting up bad-tasting glarp, then it's a cough, variously called "bronchitis, " "viral syndrome, " or something else that sounds official. But if it's intense, frequent and annoying, see your doctor, it could be pertussis ...Read more

Yes: The temp is nearing 101 which is more significant that a temp of say 99-100. It is possible that your bronchitic infection didn't clear all the way and you still have residual. It is also possible it did clear and now a secondary infection had begun. See your doctor ...Read more

For last 2 days my brother 36 yr coghing blood (morningcough fully covered by blood). He is non smoker and had bronchitis at age of 5. He had fever, co?

See a doctor!: Coughing up blood (hemoptysis) is always a worrisome sign, and should be checked asap by a physician or health care provider. While at his age, and non-smoking status, cancer is less likely, many other conditions including bronchitis, pneumonia, tuberculosis and other diseases may cause blood in sputum. Online advice is not a substitute for a good history, physical examination, xrays and labs. ...Read more

I just got over bronchitis, my son has been coughing for two days and has a fever should I take him to the doctor?

Yes: Bronchitis is usually caused by a virus and antibiotics are not recommended. But if your child has a fever and a cough for more than 2 days, he should be checked for other types of infection. It may be a virus as well, but it's hard to tell without an evaluation. Antibiotics do not help viral infections at all- they just need to run their course. ...Read more

I have had a fever for 3 weeks straight. I've been treated for flu, pleurisy, and bronchitis. I'm still miserable and nothing is helping.

Seek treatment: I don't have all of your information, but if you are still having fevers and have been treated for this three times now without improvement, you should see your doctor so they can run further tests. They may want to put you in the hospital since you are still having problems. Make sure you go to the same doctor again so he/she knows your story and already has all of the test results so far. ...Read more

I was recently dx with bronchitis & pneumonia. Fever free for more than 24 hrs, but I still have a productive cough. Is it okay to go back to work?

Depends: There is No definitive correct answer here, but your Treating provider would be able to best answer that question. Depending on the time and onset of your symptoms, how many days treatment of antiBx you have had, etc all may play a role in a return to work date. If you work alone, you may be fine, but if you are around many others in a closed space, then a productive cough would be frowned upon. ...Read more

How can you tell the difference between bronchitis and "walking" pneumonia? I've had pneumonia; over summer I got similar symptoms, no fever, for6weeks

Unlikely pneumonia: Bronchitis is usually due to a virus. With pneumonia you are very likely to develop fever, cough with sputum containing pus and/or blood, difficulty breathing, sometimes chest pain on inspiration. A thorough exam by your primary care doctor is in order, and if they feel necessary, a chest x-ray. ...Read more

My kid has had a loud cough for about a week. No fever. When should I go see my doctor? Could it be bronchitis? How would I know?

Viral or allergic: Bronchitis in children is common and almost always caused by a virus, an extension of the virus that caused a cold. Asthmatic bronchitis is also a possibility. Medications are not particularly helpful for viral bronchitis but can help asthma, so if the cough is not improving, he/she should see a pediatrician. ...Read more

URI: Cough can be the main symptoms of a cold or upper respiratory infection. Are you short of breath? If not, then you can manage your symptoms at home with OTC meds like Dayquil and Nyquil. In a non-smoker these symptoms will resolve on their own within 7-10 days. Antibiotics do not treat viral infections. ...Read more

I had a cold that turned into bronchitis over 2 weeks. No fever but I've had night sweats the entire time even on days I've felt mostly healthy. Why?

I had the flu a week ago. Fever is gone but my cough is constant, ton of mucus in chest. Doing nebs every 4 hrs. Bronchitis?

Below: You prob do have bronchitis
Now the question is whether it is viral or bacterial.

I have been coughing for 2 weeks. No common cold. Mucous is thin. Today experiencing chest pain on left side. Bronchitis or pnemonia? No fever

Musculoskeletal pain: Coughing persistently can result in musculoskeletal chest discomfort due to muscle strain, cartilage inflammation, bone bruise or even fracture. This pain will resolve once the cough resolves. Without fever or discolored sputum, the cough is unlikely to be due to infection. Bronchospasm, gerd, post-nasal drip or a combination of these is more likely. See your doctor for diagnosis/treatment. ...Read more
