Doctor insights on:
Is Blood Pressure 108 70 Bad
Yes: That is definitely not good especially if it's in that range consistently. Normal blood pressure is a max of 130/85. In your case, the systolic (top number) and diastolic (bottom number) are both high which makes it potentially doubly serious. You should have it rechecked by your doctor right away and started on medication if warranted. ...Read more
Blood pressure is a measurement of the force placed on the blood vessels and is comprised of the "systolic" pressure (the top number on a blood pressure meter) which is the peak pressure when the heart is pumping, and the "diastolic" pressure (the bottom number on a blood pressure meter) which is the pressure during the resting phase ...Read more

Not that high: Pain and anxiety can raise one's blood pressure, but when the systolic number is over 160 or the diastolic is over 100, the is unlikely all related to pain or "white coat" hypertension. I would talk to your doctor if your blood pressure has been that high at your dentist's office. He/she will want to recheck that ASAP. Phenylephrine can raise blood pressure a bit too, but not that much. ...Read moreSee 2 more doctor answers

This morning had Pulse 120 blood pressure 100 / 70. By 5 p.m. have pulse 50 Blood pressure 160 over 90..hex of dvt see other in my hx?
Doesn't sound like: a DVT. Hallmark of DVT is leg swelling and pain, occurring after leg injury or sitting stationary for a long time (like at a casino or on a plane). HR can vary a lot, with stress level, medication timing, & illness of any sort. BP also goes up and down a lot. For example it would be normal for BP to go from 100/70 to 160/90 with exercise. Hi why when checking my blood pressure breathing from nose its.normal but breathing from mouth its much higher. oxygen 98 overweight 50 pounds?
Discrepancy: Breathing from the mouth shouldn't elevate the blood pressure unless you're straining while taking it. Nose breathing is more natural, also. You should regard your baseline BP as the one taken while you are relaxed in a sitting position with your arm in a neutral position roughly at the level of your heart. The BP should be just about equal in both arms. You can lower your baseline BP by losing wt. ...Read more
I'm 32, 203 pounds, 5 foot 1, smoker, no kids no health issues. My BP is always 110/68 give or take. Is this Blood pressure good?
A : A blood pressure of 185/115 could absolutely be fatal or it could be something that someone could live with for a long time and not have any symptoms. That's the problem with high blood pressure; there are almost always no symptoms. That is until someone who has had a blood pressure of 160/90 or 185/115 suddenly can't speak or walk, because he's having a stroke that, if not fatal, could wind him up in a wheelchair and diapers for the rest of his life. I've seen far too many patients in their 50's and 40's even in that same, desperately sad situation. Human beings are not destined to live to 82. Without vaccines, sanitation, antibiotics, and (yes) blood pressure medication, we'd all be happy to make it to age 45. The average lifespan in 19th century london was 27 years old. Our bodies are amazing things, but they're not perfect. Even the healthiest eating, most vigorous exercising person can have a blood pressure that is higher than it should be to avoid dying from heart attack, stroke, kidney failure, or succumbing to blindness. If you have high blood pressure but decide that you don't want to take medication because of side effects or because you want to live more naturally, i fully support that. But realize that naturally, most of us would already be dead. I see patients who down handfuls of vitamins multiple times a day, who refuse to treat their elevated blood pressure. There has never been a single study that shows that any vitamin supplementation regimen reduces risk of heart attack, stroke, and kidney failure, yet the studies that show that high blood pressure medications do all that and more would fill the typical town library to capacity. These are old medications. Some have been around for fifty years. They've proven themselves safe and effective. Most all are generic, so you don't have to worry about your doctor being influenced by a seductive drug rep to push pills on you. Untreated high blood pressure is one of the biggest public health problems in this country, and it causes hundreds of thousands of deaths a year. So, yes, a blood pressure of 185/115 can kill. It could kill you in an hour or a decade, but the great thing is, you don't really have to ask that question, because there are effective, safe ways to lower it, and in turn increase your chance of living the lifespan that modern science has given us the chance to attain. ...Read more
