No: GERD does not cause black stools. But if you have taken Peptobismol, it can turn stool black. If you didn't take that, then you will need to see your primary care doctor soon. Black stool: Black stool can be a sign of upper gi tract bleeding from gastritis, esophagitis or ulceration. However medications containing bismuth like peptobismol or iron pills can make stools turn black also, so check the labels of the meds you took.
