Should a GYN do a biopsy to diagnose endometriosis? My Dr didn't do a biopsy and I'm concerned my symptoms are ovarian cancer.
Clarify plan: In order to do a biopsy to confirm Endometriosis your doctor will need to perform a surgery to allow entry into your abdominal cavity. This is called a laparoscopy. Unfortunately NO: Endometriosis causes pain and infertility or both. The pelvic pain and infertility can be caused by other problems. Endometriosis can also be completely silent. Laparoscopy is needed to diagnose. You may not need to know if you have endometriosis because for infertility I do not need the diagnosis to treat. If I was doing: Your workup , i assume u had an ultrasound blood work and i would do an in office endometrial biopsy and hysteroscopy as sometimes u can have endometrial polyps or fibroids or abnormal tisue, that does not show up on ultrasound, would do all that before using that drug esp if u have been bleeding for a year- that is not normal. ...Read more

Biopsy: If you had an endometrial biopsy, the biopsy itself could increase your bleeding. Also, depending on the location of your fibroid, it could also increased or irregular bleeding.
