61 yrs. M, not overweight, eat fairly well & exercise. My LDL is 116, my HDL 39, TG 118. for a total of 179. My LDL-P is 1444, do I need a statin?
I'm not sure I would: say you NEED a statin, but you might benefit from one. You have had an NMR (nuclear magnetic resonance) lipid profile performed. It is that LDL-P number that suggests benefit from statins: 1444 suggests "borderline high risk". Your triglycerides aren't too bad, but your LDL could be lower (helped by statin) and HDL higher (not so much helped by statin). If lifestyle maximized, I would consider it. ...Read more
