Is Benefiber A Laxative
Probably: There is a Benefiber product especially designed for children which simply has the wheat dextrin in it (still considered gluten free) without additional ingredients or supplements. It could be added to a child's food/beverage safely, I believe. However, I suggest increasing fiber in the child's diet would be a better initial approach. Good luck! ...Read more

Fiber: Yes, you should take fiber with water. Make sure you take adequate amount of water. If not taking adequate amount of water with fiber, this will actually worsen your constipation. Rule of thumb: one table spoon in 8 oz of water. Don't take high volume of fiber at the start, this can cause excessive bloating. Titrate from low to tolerated. ...Read more
Is there a difference between Metamucil and Benefiber? Is one better than the other? Are they safe to use every day?
Different but the: Same - almost! Both are sources of fiber. Benefiber comes from wheat dextrin, while Metamucil comes from psyllium seed. One is not necessarily better than the other, you just have to see which one your body better tolerates. Be ware, Benefiber contains exceptional small amounts of gluten, so that may come into play for a very sensitive select few. Both can be used daily. ...Read more
Is it safe to take benefiber and Zantac (ranitidine) together? Not sure why it wouldn't be but asking to make sure.

I'm able to use the bathroom at least once a day, but I still often feel constipated. What causes this? I've even been taking benefiber
I'm doing the optifast diet and I'm in week 2. Everything is great except constant diarrhea. I've also been taking benefiber once a day. Advice?
Wt loss is water wt: That is not sustainable weight loss and it can mess up your electrolytes and cause you serious harm! That is like wringing out a water soaked towel and saying "See how much lighter it is! " As soon as you start eating normally again the water will return as will your frustration and anger with your latest fad diet. As has been said in another context "There is no Royal road to geometry." ...Read more
My dr told me 2 take Benefiber daily. I found fiber oral capsules were cheaper & easier to consume. Fiber caps r made of psyllium. Which better &why?
Benefiber may be: Easier to take. The powder in a can format is easier and cheaper than capsules and you'll get a larger dose which which will help make you regular. Psyllium works well too and is a bulk laxative, and helps moves things through. It s a matter of preference. It also comes as loose powder. ...Read more

I was recommended to take benefiber. But I'm not sure as to how to include it in my daily diet. Any tips would be appreciated, thank you!
Kinda sorta: Not to be rude but this question really should be asked of your prescribing doc ; dispensing pharmacist. They need to know everything you're taking. For instance, there's an interaction btwn Paxil (paroxetine) ; klonopin! Check out http://www. Drugs. Com/interactions-check. Php? Drug_list=2312-11214, 703-357, 1800-1156 for info on all 3 together. In general, you can take either w/benefiber (lots of variations). ...Read more
All effective: Theses are just supplements. All are effective but I caution that while taking benefiber you have to make sure you drink lots of water with it. But these just supplement your diet. Most people need 25-30 grams a day and it is impossible to get this just from these products. You still have to change your diet and get it there. Consult with your physician for more info. ...Read more

Fiber is ok but: Your problem may not be not enough fiber but is much more likely inadequate fluid or excessive caffeine intake, which is a diuretic and will dehydrate you and contribute to constipation. You don't need benefiber if you are eating a diet with adequate fiber. In fact excess fiber and inadequate fluids can make the problem worse! Do a self assessment on above. ...Read more
Been constipated for 2 or 3 days. I took a Dulcolax this morning & it didn't work. So I took 2 teaspoons of benefiber and still no change. What to do?
Go on liquids: Diet only and eliminate caffeine and alcohol both of which contribute to constipation. Take some milk of magnesia 1-2 tbsp every 12 hours until cleaned out. If it feels like you have tool in the rectum, use either a glycerine suppository or fleet enema (sodium bisphosphate). But you need to be thoroughly cleaned out in order to consider a colonoscopy, so do the above first and maintain a high fiber diet and drink 80oz/ ...Read more
