How to deal with weird hunger pains 2-3 hours after meals? Gastroscopy is negative and I tried PPI , can it be psycological? I got obese cause of this

How to deal with weird hunger pains 2-3 hours after meals? Gastroscopy is negative and I tried PPI , can it be psycological? I got obese cause of this

Yes, it can: Interpretation of physical signals can be misread by people. A good specialist psychotherapist might be able to help you learn better responses to the 'weird' cues you get. You seem to know that it can not be 'real' need for food and that will be a great start. Cognative/Emotional understanding and Retraining is perhaps better than medication to address your 'real' needs. Best wishes. ...Read more

Are there any mental/psychological exercises one could use to stop themselves being hungry?

Are there any mental/psychological exercises one could use to stop themselves being hungry?

Excellent question: There's no magic. But (1) learn to distinguish hunger (the gnawing feeling that tells you that you truly need to eat) from appetite ("Mmm! That looks GOOD!" "Eating something would make me feel good right now.") (2) There are some medical syndromes that make people eat compulsively. Medication can help these; seek specialist guidance. ...Read more

If you're living in an abusive home and you suffer from a lot of psychological problems as a result, how should you get out of it?

If you're living in an abusive home and you suffer from a lot of psychological problems as a result, how should you get out of it?

Get support 1st: Leaving an abusive situation takes some planning, and you need support for this. It's very common for people who are being abused to feel they deserve this, and to be reluctant to seek help -- but this tendency is not your friend. Check out http://www.Helpguide.Org/mental/domestic_violence_abuse_help_treatment_prevention.Htm -- lots of info there & at the bottom are helpful phone numbers, etc. ...Read more

Is sexual energy real (biological and physiological), or is it purely psychological?

Is sexual energy real (biological and physiological), or is it purely psychological?

Physiological and..: Sexual desire/energy has a strong physiological basis. The survival of all species that reproduce sexually depends on a strong innate sex drive or that species would die out. Hormones like testosterone and estrogen have a strong influence on sex drive and function. Obviously there are also psychological factors that may increase or decrease sexual energy, but the basis is strongly physiologic. ...Read more

Psychological conditions that a lot of doctors might be suffering from in times of crisis (economy, general day to day, overwhelmed, procrastination)?

Physician stress: You're correct that many physicians are stressed these days. One recent study showed that 45.8% of physicians showed at least 1 symptom of burnout -- highest rates being in family medicine, primary care internal medicine, and emergency medicine. http://tinyurl.com/k4zjlhh having treated hundreds of my colleagues, i feel that additional methods such as mindfulness training can be lifesaving. ...Read more

Tricky question but how can someone distinguish anxiety from physical illness? How can you be sure that a symptom is purely psychological?

Tricky question but how can someone distinguish anxiety from physical illness? How can you be sure that a symptom is purely psychological?

Not so tricky: Sometimes it is difficult to make the distinction. But if you have a conscientious medical doctor who has run appropriate tests and ruled out likely medical illnesses that could cause your symptoms, it is makes far more sense to treat it as anxiety than to keep looking (often endlessly) for increasingly rare and unlikely medical causes. ...Read more

What is the long term psychological effect on those who were bullied a lot in school?

What is the long term psychological effect on those who were bullied a lot in school?

Variable: I've seen some who had severe anxiety disorders later -- but it's impossible to know whether an existing tendency like this could attract other kids to bully them. The bullying definitely makes it worse. I've also known some who incorporated this bullying into their own personality style -- & continue expressing it as adults. They pass it on to their kids, who look for somebody to bully. A cycle. ...Read more
