Doctor insights on:
Is Baking Soda Acid Or Alkaline
Does baking soda make a good shampoo? I heard that due to its alkaline nature, it makes hair thinner and brittle. Is that true?
So, it wouldn't clean hair.
sounds like just a bad idea.
It is not very harsh and not very alkaline so, it would NOT harm hair a lot, but I don't see it especially helping either

If I raise the alkaline level in my body will that help kill off candida? I have heard black strap mollases. Baking soda and water for alkilinity...
Some say to wash vagina with apple cider vinegar to restore natural pH and some say to wash it with baking soda. But one is acidic and other alkaline.
Is it healthy to regularly drink a glass of water with teaspoon of baking soda added, for the alkalizing effect?
No: Drinking baking soda is not recommended.Get a more detailed answer ›
If I raise the alkilinity in my body will that help tp get rid of candida? What do you think of mixing black strap molasses; baking soda & water?
Really doubt it: You have limits of increasing alkalinity in body since your kidneys kick the alkali out in urine and lungs neutralize the rest. Unless you mean raising the alkalinity of the urine. If so, you can do that with ice tea, lots of vegetables with or without baking soda. However, I do not think this will clear candida. You have not mentioned where do you think is the candida infection in your body. ...Read more
I read that vinegar or baking soda are both good to put in the bathwater for eczema. How is that possible when one is an acid and the other is a base?
I as carrying a car battery and got the battery acid on my hands I washed my hands with cool water and baking soda still burns what do I do?
Be seen: This is a strong acid and if it isn't relieved by cold water over 15 minutes be seen in the ER for assessment. You may need special cream, dressings and close follow up. All the best. Your hands are important. You can also get sick by breathing the acid. ...Read more
Is it safe to drink baking soda mixed in water for clearing acid reflux and allergy symptoms? If so, how much the ratio should be? [thanks
Not your best choice: Don't get your hopes up. Sodium bicarbonate (sodium bicarbonate) (baking soda) is a poor alkalinizer of the urine as the body turns it into carbon dioxide (which is exhaled) and table salt; all you've done is sodium-load yourself. You'll have trouble getting calcium oxalate to dissolve in anything, but your urologist may try some other alkalinizer to perhaps help a uric acid stone; don't get your hopes up. ...Read more
Why did you drink baking soda? A small amount is not going to have any effect. Even a large amount will get taken care of by the kidneys, without any damage to the kidney. It will not give acid, in fact baking soda is alkaline.
For good health - Have a diet rich in fresh vegetables, fruits, whole grains, milk and milk products, nuts, beans, legumes, lentils and small amounts of lean meats. Avoid saturated fats. Drink enough water daily, so that your urine is mostly colorless. Exercise at least 150 minutes/week and increase the intensity of exercise gradually. Do not use tobacco, alcohol, weed or street drugs in any form.

Been suffering from acid reflux. What does it indicate if drinking apple cider vinegar or baking soda make it worse?
It indicates that...: Stopping apple cider vinegar or baking soda might be a good idea for now. A primary care doctor or a gastroenterologist (stomach specialist) can evaluate to confirm the problem of gastro-esophageal reflux disease. The doctor may test for h. Pylori stomach infection, and start effective medications, including acid blockers. Plain water, nonfat milk, green tea, or simple soup broths may feel ok. ...Read more
If I put one table spoon of baking soda in 8 oz glass of water after every meal, will this cure my acid reflux? And is it safer than omeprazole for acid reflux?

I've had the same sharp pain, like acid refex, in my throat for almost 1 month on and off. I drink apple cider ving, I tried baking soda -?
Yes!: Baking soda, or bicarbonate (sodium bicarbonate) of soda, is an acid neutralizer. As such, when you eat it, it neutralizes the acid in your stomach. Without acid, your body cannot digest food to access the multitude of nutrients in it. Result: malnutrition. Once in a while, a small amount may calm an "acid stomach" or heartburn--but that's all. If more is needed, seek help from your pcp. ...Read more
Not as treatment: Muscular men tend to have high creatinine and with today's laboratory fads tend to become instant kidney patients. If your creatinine is up because of actual illness, see whether you can't get it treated -- baking soda won't even deal with the acidosis of kidney failure as you simply turn it to carbon dioxide and breathe it out. ...Read more
Baking soda: Baking soda is somewhat abrasive and as such should not be something I would recommend brushing with every day, however it does have an acid neutralizing affect which could help prevent cavities, yet a good Fluoride toothpaste is likely more effective and less abrasive to your enamel. There are many antibacterial mouth rinses available that are effective for gingivitis, but no sub for effective hc. ...Read more
No need to douche: The vagina is an amazing organ- it keeps itself clean without the help of any soaps or douches. There are "good" bacteria in the vagina that help keep out the "bad" bacteria, and douching too much can lead to a change in the bacterial flora of the vagina. This can predispose to infections such as bacterial vaginosis. You can clean with water and gentle soap around the outside of the vagina. ...Read more
