Is Bactrim Safe
Is bactrim safe for unknown prostate infection? Tried Doxy, Cipro (ciprofloxacin) before no help. Worried about side effect of bactrim.
Is bactrim for 30 days safe for a UTI that didn't respond to cipro (ciprofloxacin) or macrobid? They did a culture and sensitivity test
How common are serious side effects with the drug Bactrim? Is this drug safer than Cipro (ciprofloxacin)? I'm taking it for a prostate infection.
Prostate infection: Assuming your doc didn't have lab data demonstrating bacteria & antibiotic resistance (commonly referred to as culture & sensitivity), Cipro (ciprofloxacin)floxacin is better than Trimethoprim/Sulfamethoxazole at getting into the prostate. All quinolones like Cipro (ciprofloxacin) carry a Black Box warning against tendonitis & tendon rupture, which while rare, is more common in elderly patients. Check out www. Drugs. Com for info
I was prescribed bactrim (sulfamethoxazole and trimethoprim) last night for mastitis. I'm already on penicillin for strep throat. Is it safe to be on both? Is bactrim (sulfamethoxazole and trimethoprim) safe?
Usually: If you developed or have worsening mastitis on penicillin, then Bactrim (sulfamethoxazole and trimethoprim) is a drug with a different mode of action that may well help clear up the problem. Any medication strong enough to do good, can have undesired effects. A small percentage of the population has or can develop an allergy to is as they might the penicillin. Most can take both with no problems. Consult your doc if trouble arises.See 1 more doctor answer

After I finish my prescription of bactrim, (sulfamethoxazole and trimethoprim) when is it safe to go out into the sun again?
Is it safe to take Bactrim (sulfamethoxazole and trimethoprim) 400-80mg 2x day for 10days after a series of Ciproflaxacin 500mg 2xday for a week? What may be serious side effects?
Yes: If the initial choice of antibiotic, in this case Cipro, (ciprofloxacin) was not effective in eradicating the infection, is is safe to take a course of Bactrim. Be sure to stay hydrated. If you plan on being outside, make sure you avoid the sun and use sunscreen, since mant antibiotics including Bactrim can give you a rash.
I stopped my antibiotic treatment of Bactrim ds two days ago. Is it safe to take Alka Seltzer Plus cold dissolvable tablets.
Yes, safe: And bactrim is already out if your system by now, good that you asked, always exercise caution with multiple medications, good luck

How long after taking my last Bactrim (sulfamethoxazole and trimethoprim) is it safe to drink alcohol? How long after last dose does it stay in your system?
50 hours: The half-life of Bactrim (sulfamethoxazole and trimethoprim) is about 10 hours. A drug should be completely out of your system after 5 half-lives; therefore, Bactrim (sulfamethoxazole and trimethoprim) should be out of your system within 50 hours or just over a day. Alcohol can interact with Bactrim (sulfamethoxazole and trimethoprim) and cause some unpleasant side effects such including: fast heartbeats, warmth or redness under your skin, tingly feeling, nausea, and vomiting.
On cipro (ciprofloxacin) for kidney infection had reaction so was changed to bactrim. Now having rash, shaking so switching it agin. Is it safe to keep switching?
Adverse reactions: Unfortunately, it IS necessary to change if now you're getting a rash reaction to Bactrim (sulfamethoxazole and trimethoprim) - which is a 'sulfa' drug. Knowing what the germ is and it's sensitivity profile would help select the right antibiotic for you -- as well as keeping in balance with your allergies/medical history. Usually I like to treat for 10 or 14 days for a kidney infection- so hopefully not that much treatment left..
I was prescribed Bactrim (sulfamethoxazole and trimethoprim) DS for 10 days for a UTI...is this safe to take with accutane? I am currently on 40 mg a day and my derm is not in until Mon
Accutane and Bactrim (sulfamethoxazole and trimethoprim): I don't know of any drug interactions here: I checked the literature for you (PubMed) as well as used a pharmaceutical tool searching for drug interactions - none were reported. This makes sense since Accutane is a vitamin A analogue and likely works independently of this antibiotic. Good idea to check with your Derm doc. Not sure TEN DAYS is needed for a UTI though - I would question your Primary
I'm on bactrim (sulfamethoxazole and trimethoprim) for an uncomplicated uti. I was prescribed 10 days worth, but a different doctor told me because of my severe nausea to stop. Safe?
OK after 3 - 5 days: Mopst uncomplicated utis have cleared after 3 days on antibiotics, certainly by 5. So quite safe to stop. Macrodantin or Cipro (ciprofloxacin) xcould be prescribed in the future if you get another uti. Your 2nd dr. Has given sound advice if you are 3days+ on bactrim.See 1 more doctor answer
Thrombocytopenia 4 mths ago after taking several doses of bactrim (sulfamethoxazole and trimethoprim). Thrown in remission after 3 days decadron. Plt. In 200s n holding. Pregnancy safe?
Check: With your doctor. It is also concerning me that you have not listed bactrim (sulfamethoxazole and trimethoprim) or sulfa as an allergy. The thrombocytopenia is probably drug related and should never take it again. Check with your hematologist for advice in this regard prior to getting pregnant. Best wishes.
I feel I have a UTI (burning when I urinate, tired) I have an old Bactrim (sulfamethoxazole and trimethoprim) DS prescription dated 7/3/12. Is it safe to take?
Probably: First thing is that it's worth it to go get a urinalysis and culture. That way your doctor will know what bacteria it is, and whether it is sensitive to bacterium. Regarding your prescription, check the bottle to see if you can find an expiration date. Most meds have a couple of years of shelf life. But it's best to check to make sure the exp date is ok. Bactrim (sulfamethoxazole and trimethoprim) is pretty cheap.
Is it safe to take an herbal supplement (includes vitamins E, B6, & A) while on Bactrim (sulfamethoxazole and trimethoprim)? Could the herbal supplement interfere with the antiobiotics??
This should be ok.: Just to be safe, separate the dosing interval by 4-6 hours.
