Azithromycin (zithromax, azithrocin, zmax, azin) is an azalide, a subclass of macrolide antibiotics. Azithromycin is one of the world's best-selling antibiotics.[not in citation given (see discussion.)] it is derived from erythromycin, with a methyl-substituted nitrogen atom incorporated into the lactone ring, thus making ...Read more
No: Doxycycline is used to treat several different species of bacteria and several different bacterial illnesses. It c overs most strains of staphylococcus aureus including mrsa, hemophilus influenza, chlamydia and chlamydophilia, mycoplasma and some strains of gram negative bacteria. It is also used to treat acne and prevent malaria.
Yes: Blue light with aminolevulenic acid can work in some patients. Not sure about how your insurance may pay for it but I feel some patients do well with it. Often I will suggest it for a patient who might need accountant but they either don't want to go that route or cannot go that route.

Yes: You can also use the benzoyl peroxide in the morning.
Pain with Acne Light: It depends on whether levulan chemical is used. The chemical will make it more uncomfortable, but probably make the treatment work better. The treatment will also work without the medicine. It creates oxygen in the glands, which is toxic to the bacteria. It is a good adjunctive treatment, but nothing beats Isotretinoin for long-term resolution of acne.
For severe cases: Accutane is a very strong but very effective drug for acne. It has potential serious side effects and requires close monitoring. That said, I know multiple patients who have had phenomenal improvements with Accutane that say they would do the treatment over. I recommend you see a local dermatologist for a consultation and more information.
Blu Light for Acne: You'll want to goggle dermatologists in your area to find someone who offers blu light therapy. Blu-u® has a high-intensity, narrow-band blue light that kills the propionibacterium acnes bacteria responsible for causing acne in skin. It can be a useful alternative to oral antibiotics. Many uses: Blue light (and red light) is a part of a treatment called photodynamic therapy. It uses light and a topical chemical (aminolevulenic acid, ala) to treat many conditions. Acne is just one. Ala soaks into the skin and the light activates is. "bad cells" or acne related bacteria are then selectively destroyed by the light activation. Beyond that I would discuss with a dermatologist.
Antioxidant: Pomegranate is a source of anti-oxidants (other sources include blueberries and acai berries). It's controversial what benefits any these may have, and there is no medical evidence that pomegranates cure acne - but pomegranates are a healthy fruit!
My recommendations: There are many factors that contribute to acne breakouts. What I recommend to my patients: hormonal imbalance needs to be addressed; daily use a clarisonic device to deep clean pores with glycolic acid cleanser, glycolic acid topical for exfoliation, a retinoid (my favorite is retrinal) for it's anti-acne & anti-aging effects, and a good sunscreen. Azaleic acid can also be helpful for adult acne.
