Is An Infected Preauricular Pit Dangerous
My preauricular pit is infected. It doesn't hurt but a stinky discharge comes out. What happens if I don't get it fixed?
Spread: The infection will spread through your lymph nodes and you could develop cellulitis. Eventually it can go into your blood stream. See a physician for treatment. Often time incision with drainage and antibiotcs is helpful. If the abscess has already drained and none other exist, then antibiotics and careful follow up with your physicain would be appropriate.
I noticed that there was a preauricular pit on the crus of my helix is that what caused the sebaceous cyst?
Ear: Possible that is it the opening of a sebaceous gland or an embryologic fistula or cyst. If its red or tender you need antibiotics. Sometimes it needs to be removed in surgery
Could an unsheilded CT scan and multiple x-rays at 5 weeks gestation result in any of the problems wih my son? (autism, pvl, dysplastic kidney, silent aspiration, preauricular pit, heart murmur)
Recurrances: You may need a second procedure. If you continue with symptoms, it may be that part of the pit still remains. Okay to check with your doc/surgeon. A second opinion may help. Good luck.
What kind of doctor should I go to if I have a preauricular pit infection. Can I go to a family physician?
ENT: Ear, nose and throat physicians are specialists in this area. All the best.
No: Not unless you are having unprotected sex. During the decades that there was no effective treatment, no family member became infected through ordinary household contact. You might not want to share toothbrushes or razors; that's probably it.
Isn't it true that if you remove jewellery from an infected piercing it closes up and will form an abscess even more dangerous?
No: It will not close if infected. Most people who think a piercing is infected are actually having an allergic reaction to nickel sulfate or bacitracin. The details matter. Usually it is best to remove the piercing either for infection or for allergy. It is important to define it precisely and treat it accordingly.See 1 more doctor answer
Preauricular Sinus: By "preauricular sinus", I presume that means you have a small hole or pit in front of your ear with a draining opening or a swelling around the opening. This is not a dangerous condition, but can be associated with occasional swelling, drainge, and occasionally, infection. The surgery to remove the sinus is usually very simple, depending upon how long the sinus tract is. See an ENT doctor.See 1 more doctor answer
Clarification: Sorry but your question does not make sense. Are you referring to excision of a congenital preauricular pit? This is a pretty simple surgery, but the infections have a small chance of recurrence.See 1 more doctor answer
I had a root canal done and within a year or so it's infected with bacteria. What could cause this? Is this dangerous?
Possible perio prob: If the root canal therapy was performed correctly, and there is not a fracture, recurrent decay, or untreated accessory or lateral canals, one possible cause could be a periodontal problem. Some infections of teeth can be a combined endodontic and periodontal problem. Any infection in the mouth has the potential for more severe problems and should be evaluated and treated.See 8 more doctor answers
Is it dangerous to be in direct contact with someone with ringworm, even if the person has wrapped and covered the infected area?
Visiting nursing hom: Nursing home patients usually have medicla problems that make them more prone ot infections and some of these are contagious. I think it also depends on the nurisng home as to the santaion pracices. If you are concerned you should follow good hand hygiene and do not eat anything until you are able to wash your hands after the visit. Also you should wash all your clothes after wards.See 1 more doctor answer
Is it possible to catch viral gastroenteritis whilst currently infected with cold virus? If so is that a dangerous combination?
Multiple Virus: Yes, you certainly can be infected with multiple viral infections at once. Whether or not it is dangerous depends on the specific viral infections. Generally, a cold and gastrointestinal virus at the same time are not dangerous. They are however, very uncomfortable for the person who has them at the same time. The biggest threat is dehydration. Seek care if that is occurring.See 1 more doctor answer
I have preauricular pits on both sides of my ears. They have never given me problems til last week. One side was swollen and painful. Should I worry?
Preauricular pits...: ....Are subject to infection. Many people have them their entire lives without ever experiencing a problem, while others get recurrent infections. It sounds like your was infected. Warm compresses can help them to drain and heal. If that doesn't help, see your doctor for a more long term solution.
I have an infected hair follicle on my leg which I've read is folliculitis and is contagious. If my 6 month old gets it, can it be dangerous to him?
Soap and water: Even if your son is in direct contact, it is unlikely he will develop a skin infection. A layer of clothing should be fine. Keep the area washed clean daily and if not getting better, see your doctor for help.
Depends on situation: If you had the viruses before that cause the disorder you will be immune. If you are susceptible but are cautious & have no contact with the saliva of the person you are at low risk. It occurs most often in kids under 5 but we see occasional strains affect adults. I would not consider it much of a threat to any adult who is not immune compromised by chronic illness or chemo.
Pain of prying ingrown fingernail from infected skin cause shock-like symptoms (dizzy, sweaty, low hr, tired). No blood. Can pain cause shock? Dangerous?
The subjective: Experience of pain can do a lot of things to an individual and is best avoided at all costs. In your case I would recommend stop manipulating your fingernail (lots of pain receptors there) and let your doctor take a look.
Given bactrim (sulfamethoxazole and trimethoprim) for infected sweat gland in arm pit, this ok? Worried about possible side effects. And how long does it take to work?
Bacterial sensitivit: You seem to have an infected lymph node. Statistically the most common organism is staph. Aureus which is killed by a penicillin class antibiotic. If your swelling is going down quickly great; if not then you have to get a new antibiotic and get the lymph node incised and drained if possible by a breast surgeon or gynecologist.
