I've been getting right knee pain during leg workouts - esp lunges and during/after time on a treadmill. Advil or aleve (naproxen)? Ice or heat? Suggestions

Why do you have pain: The real question is why do you have pain, especially if it is recurrent. Ice is always the best choice for musculoskeletal problems. They are not innocuous pills to be taken like candy. This fluid retention is a serious issue. And you need to avoid these medications

What is better as anti inflamatory, Advil or Aleve (naproxen) for runners? And how often can we use them without risking complications from overuse?

What is better as anti inflamatory, Advil or Aleve (naproxen) for runners? And how often can we use them without risking complications from overuse?

Also...: Agree with dr. Vallury, but also consider that Aleve (naproxen) is longer acting than advil (~12 hours vs. 6-8). Doesn't necessarily work better but longer duration. Never take nsaids prior to long runs (>8 miles or so) because of the risk of low serum sodium and negative effects on your kidneys. ...Read more
