Can i go to a party after my colonoscopy? My procedure’s on friday morning and i want to go to a party that night. Is it safe for me to go? Can i drink?

Can i go to a party after my colonoscopy? My procedure’s on friday morning and i want to go to a party that night. Is it safe for me to go? Can i drink?

Thanks : Thanks for your question. Generally we advise patients not to drive or operate any heavy machinery until the following day after a colonoscopy, because the medicines used to sedate you can cause cloudy thinking and altered judgment. There is no medical reason you couldn't go to a party if you are feeling up to it, but i would strongly suggest you go with a trusted friend who can drive you and stay with that friend for the duration of the party. Let him/her know that your judgment may be impaired so he/she can "look out" for you. I would suggest not drinking alcohol that night. I hope this answers your question. Good luck! ...Read more

Well in terms of something going horribly wrong, as small a chance as that might be, is one safer than the other? Colonoscopy vs gastroscopy.

Well in terms of something going horribly wrong, as small a chance as that might be, is one safer than the other? Colonoscopy vs gastroscopy.

Both are very safe: modern colonoscopy and EGD are extremely safe. Complications are rare. Probably the most common complication is perforation, and it reportedly occurs in about one of every 1200 colonoscopies and about one every 2000 upper endoscopies. There are rare risks of bleeding and of a reaction to the sedation. Overall, they are extremely safe, and if you have a reason for needing one, don't shy away. ...Read more

I'm having a colonoscopy and i want to be awake for the whole procedure. Is that possible? Also they are having me take 12 ducolax pills.is that safe

Not recommended: A full colonoscopy can be very uncomfortable, even painful. I would certainly NOT recommend it in an awake state. Your body's response to conscious pain may also make the procedure more difficult to perform and limit the usefulness of the exam. ...Read more

What type of sedation is safer for a colonoscopy? Concerned about propofol.

Proofol: Is probably the best, it wears completely off in very short time. Benzodiazepines and narcotics, even short-acting, have a residual effect making you drowsy and possibly sick for the rest of the day. Propofol is an antiemetic. But Propofol requires constant monitoring and special skills to administer to be as safe. ...Read more

Is Epsom salt safe and effective as a prep for colonoscopy. If so, what is the correct dosage to use?

No: You should not use Epsom salt as a colonoscopy prep, unless it is recommended by your gastroenterologist. The only preps which are proven safe are the ones that are prescribed. It is important for the safety and reliability of the colonoscopy that the prep be done according to the instructions. It's not fun, but you should do it right! Good luck. ...Read more

Is it safe to have a enterocutanous fistula stapled during a colonoscopy? what are the disadvantages

Depends on outcome,: as usual. Big advantage: this could potentially result in the fistula closing & healing from the colon wall outward (optimal) versus surgery. The downside: bleeding or inadequate closure & healing of the colon wall because less precise than with open exposure, surgical division & careful suturing with more direct control of potential bleeding. Surgery: requires more injury&possible complications. ...Read more
