Is brown rice healthy for consumption for a type 2 diabetic? I like brown rice veggie sushi, is it a healthy choice for me? Thanks.
Better than white: Rice -whether it is white or brown is a carbohydrate and should be eaten in a limited amount when you have dm. Brown rice is a better choice because it is higher in fiiber and tends to have better effect on blood sugars. I usually encourage my pts w dm to stay < 30-45grms/meal in women and < 45-60 in men- rice i feel is a carb that encourage getting rid of and focusing on increased veggies. ...Read more
It depends: What is the specific "nourishment drink" you're considering? You need to have protein, healthy fat, fiber, and some fruits or veggies in it, with low sugar content too. Healthy food!: I don't know what the typical breakfast is in nigeria, but a healthy breakfast should include protein- this can be eggs, nuts, beans or lean meats. Fruits & vegetables are always healthy- i often have an omelet with onions, tomatoes & avocado. Oatmeal is ok but i would add nuts for protein. Yogurt can be good too. Better: What would be better would be to have the actual fruits and vegetables that they claim is in there. Think about all the healthy fiber you would be getting and how filling it would be. Protein shakes can-: -have lots of sugar, & is not 4 wt loss, but 2 increase Ur daily protein intake. Mainly should B ingested after a work out. Best way 2 loose wt is am workouts, day of rest or cardio, & use protein supplements only if Ur daily intake is insufficient. Yes if you like it.: A good "diet" should consist of a variety of foods. There are no foods to exclude, just eat them in proper proportion. Total caloric intake is far more important than the ratio of fat to protein to carbohydrate. Diet implies temporary and "diets" are generally discouraged as they do not maintain weight loss.
